Baby Products Reviews of Boppy Bare Naked Pillow

Customer Review: Totally hyped up and overrated!
Summary: 2 Stars

When my wife was pregnant, we had a blast putting things on our registry at the baby stores. The problem is, many items are too expensive, so they end up unbought and we had to buy it for ourselves. Thus was the case of the Boppy. We had heard SO many great things about it; some friends claimed it was "a lifesaver". So we spent the money to buy the Boppy and slip cover. We were so disappointed when it actually came time to breastfeed our baby. My wife is not obese, but she is larger than the so-called average mother. THE BOPPY IS NOT FOR LARGER PEOPLE! It didn't fit around my wife, kept slipping off her hip as she was feeding our daughter and because of its rounded shape, she can't rest the baby safely on it. We ended up spending just as much for "My Brest Friend" (also available on Amazon My Brest Friend Deluxe Pillow, Light Green), which was infinitely better!
We've decided not to sell the Boppy, to help hold up our daughter when she starts sitting up (hence the second star).

Customer Review: My Brest Friend is better for breast feeding
Summary: 3 Stars

The boppy is OK. Had my baby a month ago and had registered for the boppy instead of the My Brest Friend having never used a MBF and boppy got such good reviews. I received the Boppy before my baby was born. Now I've used the Boppy for about a month and used the MBF at the lactation consultant a few times. If you are buying the Boppy for breast feeding support, then go with the My Brest Friend. It sits up higher, is flat on top so the baby stays put instead of rolling inward, and since it belts around the waist, it stays put the entire time. I like the boppy fine just for holding the baby or bottle feeding. But if you are trying to breast feed with it, it is really bad. Especially if you have a squirmy baby, It slips off constantly. Since its curved the baby kind of rolls in toward you into the space between you and the Boppy. I would almost recommend getting both if you are going to breast feed. Use the Boppy for it's numerous other applications (makes a great pillow to sit on immediately post-partum while you are healing, BTW), and use the MBF for breast feeding.

Customer Review: Overrated and saggy after short use
Summary: 2 Stars

The miracle middle is nothing special, so if you are a plus size mom on the larger side of plus, don't buy this thinking the pillow will stretch and wrap around you. I'm very short and this pillow was in a awkward position while breastfeeding, and wasn't long enough to offer the ever important elbow support. This applies when using the bottle with a heavier baby as well.

The pillow is painfully missing back support, and the middle dips and sags. I only used this pillow for 3-4 months before using one of my regular pillows with a waterproof pad under because it was cumbersome and already losing shape.

Use of this as a baby support is okay, better than a regular pillow, though in a pinch rolled up blankets work fine. While having the ability to customize your pillow style is nice, the added expense for an average product almost negates the pros.

The pillow is said to be machine washable, but given the poor quality of the stuffing inside, do so at your own risk!

Customer Review: A few things to know...
Summary: 4 Stars

Before I had my baby I heard a lot of great things about the Boppy, and it did live up to most of its expectations. It is fabulous for nursing with, especially when your baby is small and you both need lots of support in getting breastfeeding down. I used it all the time, both for nursing and for laying my baby in.

One night my baby spit up all over and the Boppy was soaked. I put it in my washing machine, which is a smaller model, and when it was done I discovered that the agitator had torn the cotton apart inside and the entire pillow was not as full as it had been. I have not used the boppy nearly as much since. I wish the makers of the Boppy would create a cover that is lined with plastic on the inside so that you wouldn't have to worry about washing the pillow at all, just the cover (because, guaranteed, you will need to wash it). So my advice to everyone that gets a Boppy is to make sure that your washing machine is big enough to allow the pillow to move around during the cycle.

Customer Review: A must have for any parent!

This is one of those few baby products we simply can't live without. I breastfed my son for 4 months and this helped prop him easily to eat while my hands were free, crucial for those first few weeks of round-the-clock feedings. But it has many other valuable uses. My son hated tummy time on the floor and his head was getting flat, so we laid him belly down in our laps on the boppy, which he loved. It was the only tummy time he had for the first 3 months. As he gets older we find more and more uses. We prop him up on it to drink his bottles now that he is holding them by himself. He has acid reflux and it helps to prop him in it after feedings to prevent spit up. Now that he is sitting, we spread it around him on the floor so that when he falls over he has a nice soft landing. This has been a lifesaver in many ways. It isn't just for breastfeeding mommies. It wraps around your stomach very easily and provides a comfortable place to lay baby down if they fall asleep in your arms. I love our boppy!!!
