Baby Products Reviews of Boon Flair Pneumatic Pedestal Highchair - Frosty Blue and WhiteCustomer Review: Gorgeous high chair - but slightly flawed Summary: 4 Stars
Well, I agree with almost all the positive talk about this high chair - I LOVE the fact that it's so easy to clean - my biggest beef with our old high chair was that the tray was so large, it was really difficult to clean and the fabric padding meant frequent trips to the washing machine - this high chair cleans up with a couple of wipes, which is a treat. The Flair is easy to move around (again, a problem with our old high chair) and it looks great. BUT - I have a big issue with the harness/straps. I didn't buy this chair until my child was 11 months and putting her in the harness is next to useless - the buckle the straps click into sits right between her legs, so there's nothing really holding the straps together - the harness should hold the straps together across her chest/stomach to keep her securely in the chair. Because the straps clip on to the harness so low, the straps mostly just slip off her shoulders - so I'm relying completely on the tray to keep her from falling out of the high chair. Hopefully soon the chair will be mostly used as a toddler chair, pulled up to a table, so I won't have to worry about the straps - but now it's a bit of a concern. Oh - and also, I was ticked off that the second snap-on tray that comes with the high chair was 100% covered in a sticker touting the features of the Flair chair - but it's impossible to get off! I've even tried to scrape it off with a knife, and it's barely coming off - as a result, I really only have 1 tray that I can use, which is a drag.
Customer Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
As a first-time mom I've found myself researching every baby product I buy...this was no exception. After reading mixed reviews I was worried that the chair would be too hard and uncomfortable for my baby and that the tray would be too small. I also worried the chair would stand out too much given that my decor is more Pottery Barn style than modern. But I have to say this chair is AWESOME! it's soo easy to clean you just wipe it down. My lil' girl loves it. The tray although small is just fine. She keeps her food on the tray for the most part since she can't reach all that far anyway. A lot of her snacks end up on her seat rather than on the floor. The seat pad is easy to clean or just rinse off. l The trays are easy to clean too. The chair glides easily everywhere. Yes...it's a bit tough to move around on carpet, but it's no big deal as I prefer to feed her in the kitchen. The brake doesn't completely keep the chair from moving on hard surfaces (e.g. wood or tile flooring) but it's no biggie.
Major Pro: easy to clean, easy to move around, and grandma pointed out no one can trip on the legs since it's just a round base, super simple assembly (I finished in 15 minutes)
Cons: wish it had somewhere to hang or store the tray when not in use, also the shoulder straps are really lose and can't adjust them completely to fit correctly.
Overall I have been very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend to others.
Customer Review: Pros and Cons Summary: 3 Stars
I've had this product for about a year now. There are definitely pros and cons. The big pro is that it is super-easy to clean. Love that.
Here are the cons:
1) Small tray -- this is not a problem when baby is little, but when you have a toddler that should be eating from a plate, it is difficult to fit a standard melanime plate plus cup on the tray.
2) Shoulder straps are worthless. Will not fit a larger baby/toddler. We just use the belt strap and leave the shoulders dangling (wish they were detachable!) I don't think it's safe to rely on the tray -- it pops out fairly easily.
3) Foot rest is useless. Although it is a good ladder for a toddler to climb into the chair.
4) Odd design choices with the tray and buckle -- the tray requires 2 hands to properly install or uninstall (why???); also the buckle really needs to be squeezed to get it into the latch (as opposed to my old peg, where the buckles slid in easily). I'm mystified why these easy fixes weren't made.
I noticed some people say the top was wobbly -- if the child is active, the bolts will loosen. You will need to periodically tighten them.
The ease of cleaning may outweigh all of this . . . Also be aware that the pneumatic lift makes this HEAVY. Not a good choice for rolling over carpet or lifting to different locations (although we do it sometimes). But the roller wheels work great on hardwood/vinyl/etc.
Customer Review: Totally worth the price! Better than Peg Perego's. Summary: 5 Stars
My mother in law bought a nice Peg Perego $[...]+ high chair (prima pappa?) and I used it a lot at her house; I recently bought the Boon flair for my place and I like it better in every way. Meal time is always going to be messy, and the Boon is SO much easier and faster to clean. I love how his high chair looks, but ease of cleaning is still the most important thing to me when deciding on a high chair. There are literally no seams in the Boon seat--there may not be "seams" in the Peg Perego but there are crevices where the seams would be that trap food anyway and I don't want to spend time wiping out each crevice. And the Boon's base is super quick and easy to clean, as opposed to all the legs and such on a regular-styled high chair. I saw one review for the Boon complaining the tray is too small; while it is smaller than a standard high chair tray (like Peg Perego's,) I don't see why that is a bad thing. How much food-space does baby need, anyway? The wheels work good on the Boon, the seat doesn't swivel but the chair is easy to turn. The straps do get messy; but that is going to happen in any high chair; they're very safe and secure straps anyway. So, I love this high chair and I would recommend it over anything else! I think it's totally worth spending $[...] instead of $[...] on a standard high chair (and don't waste your $[...] on the Peg Perego!)
Customer Review: Nice looking chair. Works pretty well. Summary: 4 Stars
This is a nice highchair. I had the Peg Perego chair with my first child, but it got filthy (as highchairs do) and was hard to clean. Too many little grooves and places for food the get stuck. After researching high chairs extensively, I decided on the Boon Flair. It was just much better looking and easier to clean then anything else out there, unless you are willing to spend really big money.
We have been using the chair for about a month.
PROS:
- Nice looking
- Easy to clean!!!
- Easy to move around and up and down
CONS:
-Doesn't recline. My daughter is 5 1/2 months old now and is just starting to look more comfortable in it without being slouchy.
-You need to use 2 hands to get the tray off and on. Impossible to do if you are holding a baby.
-The buckle is pretty stiff. Again, hard to do with one hand.
-The straps are very soft, which is nice, but because they are not stiffer, they twist easily. They then get creased around the buckle and look messy.
Even though I have more cons than pros, in my mind, the pros are much more important. I would still recommend this chair and haven't seen anything else for the price that is even close.
