Bobblin Band Bouncer
Baby Products Reviews of Bobblin Band BouncerCustomer Review: Works great, not annoying, and we're on our second kid Summary: 5 Stars
If you're shopping for a bouncer, make sure to find one with music that YOU like. You're going to be listening to the songs over and over and over and over again, so it shouldn't drive you crazy. We originally bought this bouncer for my son in 2007 after sampling the music on the bouncers at Baby's R Us. All of them annoyed us except for this one. The music is all the songs you know (Muffin Man, Bingo, All around the Mulberry Bush, etc.) but with a big band, jazzy flair. My son loved it then and my daughter born this year loves it now. (and we're still not sick of it).
For Parents:
Additional features include: adjustable strap, easy to get in/out, battery life is also quite good. So far we've replaced them once in 4 months. The bar which the baby looks is removable, making it easier to into the car on trips. (It doesn't fold or lay flat due to the metal legs that provide the "bounce"). There are separate batteries for the music and the seat vibration. The bar over the top is removable for feeding if you wish, but truthfully we never remove it except when traveling in the car as it's easier to pack without it attached. Note that if you remove the bar, you're also removing the ability for the unit to play music as this is where the speakers, on/off switches, etc reside. The seat cover comes off easy for washing and velcros in place under the bottom front of the unit.
There are two switches on top. One has three positions: Music on all the time, off, and music on while kicking. The first setting plays though the music one time (about 10 minutes or so, I think). After the music ends, the music (and lights) won't start up again until you turn the unit to off and then back again. This is great because it acts as an auto shut-off feature. It doesn't seem to matter if the unit is "on" in this mode as it does not seem to drain the battery.
The other mode, "music on while kicking" plays short little 5-10 second songs anytime the baby kicks. Under the baby's feet are two pads which when pressed activate the music while in this mode. For very young kids who kick randomly, the music will play for them when they're moving around. As they get older they'll learn that kicking will turn on the music. My son learned to kick to turn on the music, which became a reward for him. It was great to see him learn how it works.
For Baby:
There are three characters on top on springs that move around with even the slightest baby movement, providing visual stimulation. In addition, there are lights that turn on and off to the music and there are musical instruments that hang down also swaying around when the baby moves. As my son got older he would start to reach out and tug and pull no the instruments (my daughter's not quite there yet). The seat appears to be quite comfortable (wish I had a larger version to take a nap in) and there is a separate vibration pack under the feet with an on off switch that supplies soothing vibrations. My son liked it at times but we haven't tried it with my daughter yet.
Other things:
The belt will not restrain a child who is strong enough to really twist their bodies around. We discovered that my son outgrew it when he leaned far sideways and couldn't get back up. He was still strapped in but managed to hang off the end and got stuck. I sat him up, unbuckled him and put it away immediately as he was clearly too advanced for it. Never leave your child unattended!
I haven't shopped for a bouncer since this one and it's pretty much an end of life product now and doesn't seem to be available anywhere except as of this writing, Amazon has a few left. I'm not sure if there have been any major advances in bouncer technology, in the past two years, but we've been extremely happy with this one.
