Baby Products Reviews of Bébésounds Nasal Clear Battery Operated Nasal AspiratorCustomer Review: Works well on my toddler Summary: 4 Stars
When I read the description for this, it said that this aspirator was safe for infants and I wondered whether it would be strong enough for my son, who is a few months from age 3. It does have pretty good suction and works well, even on a toddler. There are 2 tips and the larger tip fits him and I think would still fit him when he's years older. The music function didn't work at first, but it just started working after a few uses - although that function doesn't really interest me.
As an infant, my son was in the hospital and they had this great aspirator that attached to suction coming from the wall. I wanted something like that but I was wary of those suction devices that work with your vacuum cleaner - just too noisy and risky to me. So this was the only other option I could find and I couldn't find any reviews for it. But I got it anyway and I'm happy with it. It is easy to clean and removes snot well. I would recommend anyone using this on their child to use saline drops first to loosen the mucus...otherwise the constant suction on something that has thickened would probably be painful for your kid. It does have a little noise with it which infants might not like, but maybe the music helps with that. It sounds kind of like a vibrating cell phone. My son isn't bothered by it and even likes using it at times. I don't think it removes stuff that you couldn't already get with a traditional nose sucker though, it just is faster - you don't have to keep sucking and squirting like you do with a regular sucker.
Customer Review: So much better than a manual aspirator Summary: 5 Stars
I am a first time parent of a 4 month old. I was surprised to learn that babies can't clear their own noses until they are about 3 years old. I tried using the manual bulb aspirator but my little one would get frustrated and I would have limited success clearing his nose. It usually took several attempts to get into the nostril and once there, I was only able to get good suction about 1/3 of the time. Maybe others have better luck than me but these are my stats.
I ordered the NasalClear about a week ago. I was concerned that the vacuum might be too strong for little noses or that the tips would be too invasive. The vacuum is very gentle. I prefer the shorter, stouter tip as it seems less likely to go too far up the nostril. Either tip is certainly shorter than the one on the manual bulb. The suction, while being gentle, is very effective at cleaning the nostril. I was surprised by how much a little nostril could hold. That being said, the NasalClear comes with a collecion cup that has a max fill line on it that seems absurdly large. I have yet to get even a drop into the chamber (there is quite a bit of storage space in the tubes leading to the chamber that does get filled) so I can't even imagine filling it.
I don't find the music feature to be very important.
It's a great product that works well and doesn't irritate my baby. So far, there hasn't been a tear caused by NasalClear--which is a huge improvement over the manual bulb.
Customer Review: Waste of money Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this item because it looked really useful based on the description but I got really disappointed when I started using it.
First, the music sounds are really cool but when trying to play it to my baby it makes her want to touch it and grab it and actually paying more attention to it, making it more difficult to aspirate the mucus. So I wouldn't recommend it for a restless curious baby.
Second, the suction is around the same or actually less efficient than manual aspirator and takes more time, since it's a slow constant pressure. Therefore this does not aid to do the job faster.
Third, the mucus gets stuck in the middle parts of the system and never reaches the clear cup at the bottom, making it really difficult to clean. I would have to aspirate water several times to release the mucus from the inner walls so that it would finally enter the cup.
Fourth, I found it more difficult to use since you have to be holding the aspirator and pressing the button at the same time while holding your baby's head and preventing her to move.
Some people said to use the drops first to make them more liquid but in my experience even putting the drops to my baby is a challenge so in the same time I put the drops I could actually use the manual bulb aspirator and job done!
Bottom line, with a little of practice the manual bulb aspirator is easier to use and faster and aspirates more mucus than this fancy one :)
Customer Review: Check with Company it is working correctly! Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this from a local store and was very disappointed at first. I tried it on both our 2 year old and 3 month old, both with congestion and allergy problems in the mornings. This product barely sucked anything, the old nose bulb did much better. After 2 weeks of trying I finally called the toll free number for Unisar. She had me check if the white ring was present above the cup (it was), and the two black rings were present when you pull the unit apart (they were). We checked the batteries, they were fine. Then the phone rep had me check if the aspirator could pick up a tissue from a flat surface. Nope! She said there was something wrong with the one I purchased, the suction should be much better. I am going to exchange it for another and see if I can get the same positive results others are getting. Try this test if yours does not work well. The phone rep said I had to mail it to Unisar at my cost and they would send me another, or try to return it to my local store. I called the store, explained what I found out, and they will exchange it since I have my receipt. I hope the next one works, if not I'm sticking with the hospital issued bulb.
Customer Review: WorksGreat Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking to replace this item that my 2 year-old recently ran over with his scooter and I saw all the negative reviews. As a nurse (to newborns) I find the bulb (although cheap)requires a bit of skill when you get past a certain age and the nares get too large to safely insert the tip of the bulb without hurting the inside of the little ones' nose. It is also difficult to keep clean. As for not having enough suction (as some reviews mentioned) to get any mucous out, the problem may be that there IS NO mucous (or very little) and the congestion is caused by inflammation and narrowing and swelling of the air passages and not mucous accumulation. I have been using this product with great success with my oldest (now 5) and my little one (2) who actually uses it on himself, although he can already blow his nose. It works like magic on "runny" noses, or any notable mucous that is observed passing from the nose, (with some saline drops help liquefy the secretions). As I mentioned, I am a repeat customer and only because I suspect the aspirator wasn't designed to withstand being run over by a 2 year-old on a scooter.
