Baby Products Reviews of Bébésounds Nasal Clear Battery Operated Nasal AspiratorCustomer Review: Great! Summary: 5 Stars
both my 4 year old and my little daughter 5 month old hate having their noses suctioned! My little girl has reflux and spits up a lot, due to that she always has quite some Milkbuggers up her nose and to add to that, she's teething like a Mammoth right now which makes her congested as well. First she wanted to sqirm away, but the hummingsound that comes from it and the nice Tune it plays destracted her! Since it vibrates quite a bit I first touch her cheek with it so she knows what to expect and she immidetly calmes down and today started even to giggle because it tickled her nose!
The long and short tip are both very soft and have no sharp edges and the suction is very gentle. Yes, I do agree that it won't suck crusties out of the nose but even with a bulb, hard stuff should be soaked for a couple of seconds with a squirt of saline up the nose to soften it. Once you do that the bigger buggers will come out with the big tip!
I personally find the Bulbs to invasive and the aspirators in Hospital pretty strong, so strong that not even the stuff will use them unless the Babys oxygen drops due to stuffiness in the nose! I KNOW I just spent 1 week in the hospital in February with my duaghter due to RSV, and yes those aspirators there shouldn't be used unless there is no other way (but even there they use always saline first to soften the stuff and then use the suction)
Oh, by the way, the Aspirator comes with a handy little sack to store the tips and the easy to take apart and clean Aspirator! sure, the Suction is not as strong as the Hospital one but the Hospital cannot be used as often as you want to, this one is gentle enough and even fun for the little ones while giving them relieve and can be used as needed it is that gentle! That's why it gets 5 stars from me!
Customer Review: Great - When it works! Loses Plastic Ring that gives it suction too often! Summary: 3 Stars
Okay so I love this product when it works. I have a 5 month old and used it for 2 days when she was a month old and then it stopped sucking and I couldn't figure out why so I called customer service and she asked if there was a white rubber ring on the inside where the "collection bulb" screws on and I said no that I had never noticed one and had only washed it out 3 times in the sink with hot water and I would think that it would have gotten caught around the sink drain before it would go down. Nonetheless, she sent me a new one and the suction returned - I was pleased. So now my daughter has a stuffy nose again so I brought it out again yesterday and used it, rinsed it out - used it a few hours later, rinsed it out - each time holding my finger over the ring so it wouldn't come out - I tried to pay CLOSE attention to that blasted ring. Well, when I went back to put it back together again after it dried, the darn ring was gone and of course, so was the suction!! I could just cuss someone as I know that even if they send me another one it will be a week!!! I looked everywhere - and the drain is a SMALL drain that shouldn't have allowed this little rubber ring to go down without some forcing!! This is a SEVERE FLAW in this stupid little machine, as it is also supposedly dishwasher safe - are you really going to remember to remove the ring each time? Honestly, they should sell packs of 10 rings at the stores for this darn thing! The ring issue is why it got 3 stars instead of 5 - maybe if they go ahead and give you a few extra rings in the package it would be best. I like that the tips don't "poke" your childs brain like those nasal aspirators do!
Customer Review: It works like magic when you do it right. Angle it at a right-angle with the nostril. Summary: 5 Stars
I normally do not write a review. But I'm so impressed with this product I'd like to share my 2 cents. I disagree with the review that said it's not better than a suction bulb. It is 1000 times better! I have a baby who has a stuffy nose ever since he was born. It was a nightmare every time I used the suction bulb. My baby would cry like there's no tomorrow, and still, the bulb didn't take anything out. When it did, it stopped suctioning just as the snot is at the tip of the nostril, and baby will naturally breath it in again unless I wiped it out at a lightning speed... The battery aspirator keeps on suctioning until you release the button which will make sure that the snot will be completely out from the nose. Initially I was hesitant to buy this. The first time I tried it didn't work, but after reading the manual again and following the instruction, it worked like magic! You have to angle the aspirator at a right angle with the nose. Because my baby has sticky snot, not watery like the kind you see on a runny nose, I didn't see the snot go down to the collection cup. But when I checked my baby's nose, it is clear!! Apparently, the snot was stuck at the wall of the suction tip. I just suctioned a little water to clean it, and there was the snot ... go down to the tiny cup. If your baby has dry and sticky snot, I suggest spraying a little bit of saline mist on each nostril first before suctioning them out with the aspirator. It works for me... every time. This product is a sanity saver. Now, I don't have to feel like I'm abusing my son every time I clear his nose, which is what I would feel when I use the suction bulb. Definitely worth it!
Customer Review: Love it. Love it. Love it. Summary: 5 Stars
This absolutely a great product. We've tried to stay on the "cheap" side by using the bulb every time our son gets sick. And every time I wonder why I didn't get this product as he screams and kicks when we try to use the bulb on him -- It's slow, not as effective and he hates it. Finally I broke down and bought BébéSounds Nasal Clear. Oh boy, what a difference this product has made in just the 1st day of use. It got SO MUCH out in a fraction of the time compared to the bulb!
At first I thought the music feature was such a waste of battery and a superfluous feature. But NOOOOOO... our 2-year-old would only let me suction his nose if the music was playing. We've even made a pact where I'd like him press the music button if he lets me do the suction for the duration of the music... Cool!
I am not sure why the other reviewer had a hard time getting anything out of his/her infant. But do keep in mind that for best results, the other nasal cavity plus the mouth would have to be temporarily closed for optimal effect. Just imagine how we blow our nose -- it's just not practical if you try to blow your nose while you're still breathing through your mouth! We taught our son to say "mmmmm" while we quickly apply the BébéSounds Nasal Clear on him and repeat it until we thought we got as much as we could.
If you are still sitting on the sidelines waiting to get this, don't wait -- get it. It will save you time and hassle. And it will also make your infant/toddler happier without having to go through the ineffectiveness of the bulb...
Customer Review: disappointed, weak Summary: 1 Stars
We own four nasal aspirators by now.
1/ bulb syringe
Works well, but takes too long. Not the easiest to clean properly.
2/ battery operated Graco/Bebesound (same thing) aspirator
Compared to the bulb it is easier to work with and clean afterwards, but not as effective, because the suction is weaker. OK for thin mucus, continuously runny nose. But even for that, if you have a baby like mine, who cannot stay still for half a second, you'll find this little machine to be too slow. (No, the music does not help.)
3/ Japanese "pigeon" aspirator
Supposedly the suction power is controlled by the parent. We were only able to use it effectively for thin mucus, for which the battery operated aspirator was more comfortable to use. Not any faster though.
4/ vacuum attachment nasal aspirator
This is the best, we put away all the others. It's a clear tube, consisting of three parts. The tip is not intrusive, it does not go into the nose, and it is designed so that the snot does not travel into the tube. The other end attaches to the vacuum cleaner. I know, this sounds scary, doesn't it? We were in Europe where we saw it in action (and I thought they must be crazy!) I bought one, tried it on myself when I had a runny nose and also when dry. No, it did not suck my brain out :) Actually, the suction does not feel strong at all, so it is somewhat surprising how well it cleans. Effective and VERY FAST. My baby has no problem with the noise of the vacuum cleaner, but even if yours does, you can turn it off in max 4 seconds. Winner.
