We weren't lucky enough to have this monitor with our first child, and I don't think I slept through the night until she was over 1 year old - even though she was sleeping well from a young age. I was so worried about SIDS that I would sneak into her room a few times a night to put my hand on her chest and make sure she was breathing. Not wanting to experience this worry again, this time we bought the Angelcare monitor. My son was a wiggly baby from the start, and would manage to wedge himself into the corner of his crib, often flipping face down and ramming his nose into the bumper. I took the bumper out, and he freaked. He wanted to have his face pressed into something soft, and would not sleep without it. Thankfully we had the Angelcare. I would put him down at bedtime, and not go in again unless he woke up. I never felt the urge to peak, even though I knew that he would be smashed up against that bumper. We had a couple of false alarms with it, mostly when one of us took him out of the crib and forgot to turn it off. One night though, it went off and I walked in to check on him. He was on his back, not crammed in the corner for once. Out of habit I put my hand on his chest...no breathing....I put my finger under his nose...no breaths! I patted him a few times, and still nothing. Now considerably freaked out, I picked him up and he coughed a couple times and started breathing again. Thank goodness for the Angelcare monitor! I don't know if he would have started breathing again on his own or not, but I don't care. If there was even the smallest chance that this monitor saved my son's life, I am eternally grateful. We have had minimal problems with it. The temp is within a couple degrees of what a thermometer says, and even though the sound quality isn't the best, it is more than enough. I don't know why there isn't some kind of government grant or something to provide and Angelcare to every baby. The minor annoyances of false alarms are nothing compared to the security it provides.Customer Review: LOVE IT LOVE IT

I won't be able to say enough how much I love this product. When your pregnant its every mothers fear that your baby will be a victim of SIDS. I worry a lot so I knew I would be in his room every five minutes checking on him. I didn't even know a product like this existed until I just decided to check and see. I thought even if I could find something that was a few hundred dollars it would be worth the peace of mind. When I found this the features and the price tag blew me away. I like other reviewers was worried about it going off all the time by accident I could not fathom a product really being able to detect your baby breathing by being under the mattress. It works!! Its a bit tedious setting up and you have to put the baby in and take him out a few times to get the sensitivity just right but then its set and you don't have to mess with it again.
As a first time mom this made me feel right at ease. I could not relate to others moms when they would say they could not sleep at night because I was sleeping just fine knowing if something was wrong the monitor would let me know. You realize this fact when you are up at 2am and take the baby out while you are half asleep and are halfway down the hall to change a diaper and it starts going off, lol. I don't know how many times my poor husband was running back to turn it off. You do have to watch vibrations in the room where you have the monitor and the baby however I sleep with a small fan on my nightstand every night and had the baby also right next to my bed and it was fine. After moving him to his room however I could not use the ceiling fan because it would make the monitor think the baby was in there when he was not. I think it was because it moves the bed skirt on the crib when it is on. We just kept the fan off.
Whenever I have the chance I tell people about this monitor. I believe everyone should have this. This product could literally save your child's life and its worth every penny.

We bought this monitor for our newborn. My first impression was that the components are all very well made. They're very sturdy, and the displays are very clear and easy to read. The range is also very good. I'd heard that these movement sensor monitors can be a bit finicky in that they occasionally won't detect the baby's movement and then will scare both the baby and the parents. I haven't encountered that problem with this monitor however, and in fact, the monitor seems to be very accurate at detecting when there is even the slightest movement in the crib.
The overall design is also very intelligent. Each parent unit has its own charger, so you can keep them in different parts of the house (eg: family room and bedroom). The parent units can also warn you when they are out of range, rather than just going silent like many other baby monitors will. The parent units also use standard NiMH AA batteries, so if you forget to leave one in the charging cradle you can swap out the batteries. (Just be carful not to use non-rechargables and then put it back in the charging cradle!) The system is also very configurable (though this aspect is a little complicated).
My only complaint is that I wish there was an easy way to silence the parent units when removing the baby from the crib. If the movement sensor is enabled and the baby is removed from the crib for more than 20 seconds the movement alarm will sound. You can avoid this by completely turning off the base station, but then the parent units will complain that the base station is "out of range" unless you also turn them off. It would be nice if the base station could instead tell the parent units to go into some sort of "standby mode" so we wouldn't have to coordinate turning the parent units on and off with the base station.
Other than that one minor gripe, I'd highly recommend this product, especially for very young babies as the movement sensor can give a lot of peace of mind.

We originally bought this thinking the movement sensor was kind of a gimic. It's totally not.
The hand-held monitors have this little tick function which looks like a metronome swinging with it detects movement. I've tested this a bunch of times to see if it was just picking up the weight and maybe not the actual baby breathing. Our baby is so small that we put the bassinet in the crib. The sensor is placed user the crib mattress and it detects her breathing even though the bassinet. I thought the ceiling fan (which is a good thing to have on to prevent SIDs) was moving the bassinet which would give me a false positive. Without the baby in the crib and replaced with a 6lb item to simulate the weight of the baby it doesn't detect movement. Needless to say after all my tests, this thing really does work as described!
I went from checking on our baby 4-5 times a night to simply sleeping! If the movement stops the monitor vibrates (or does an loud alarm which I turned off). So I know if anything goes wrong I will be alerted. This is truly a great product for new parents. It also displays the temperature of the baby's room. We have a huge house and the mic is super sensitive so I can hear even the slightest noise she makes from a great distance. When she does cry it sounds like she is in the room with us again.
I only wish I had tested this a month earlier instead of having her sleep next to us in the bassinet. Believe it or not, this is much safer because the movement I could hardly detect with my hand the sensor displays. Buy this and get some sleep!!!!
Customer Review: FANTASTIC PRODUCT. Better than expected.

This is the first time that I have been so thrilled with a product so as to prompt me to write a review.
At first, I couldn't believe that it was going to be sensitive enough to detect when our baby's little body stopped moving. However, EVERY single time we take our baby out of the crib and forget to turn off the alarm, the alarm sounds. So, I know it works perfectly. It even works while using a sleeping positioner.
Before we bought this, I read reviews about false alarms. The alarm has gone off twice while he's been in the crib (over the course of a month). Those may have been false alarms, or those could have been times when the monitor saved his life. We'll never know. I do know, however, that I would rather deal with an occasional false alarm than deal with the death of my baby!
The features are great. I love the ability to switch between sound, motion, and sound/motion combined. It is very easy to use once you know what all the features are. It has an extremely long range compared to other monitors. We have no problems anywhere in a two story house or even in the back yard. The sound quality is very good. Even without the motion detector, the range and sound quality make this a high quality monitor compared to other monitors and easily justifies the price.
Overall, the price is so low for a product that has the potential to save a baby's life. I would recommend this product to everyone.
