Baby Products Reviews of BébéSounds Angelcare Movement Sensor w. Sound Monitor w. Two Parents' Units

Customer Review: Excellent Item, Small Price for Piece of Mind
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this product. When my baby girl was born I could not sleep once I left the hospital. While there I knew that people were watching her. Once I was home I wouldn't sleep unless someone else was awake and keeping an eye on her. I was so afrid of SIDS, my husband and I had to sleep in shifts. I had done some reserch on-line about monitors and when I read other reviews about the Angelcare sensor I was sold.

What is $100 compared to my baby's life and my piece of mind. I could get a good night's sleep and stop poking at my baby to make sure she was ok every 5 minutes.

My baby is now 13 months and we still use it. We have never had a false alarm. But I would like to share some things we have found out for ourselves:

It's very portable. We have used it in hotels, visiting family, and camping. As long as it has a surface under the matress to support it, it works. It even worked when we placed it under the pad of a pack-n-play.

It picks up movement, your footsteps will be picked up by it. So if you have the baby in a room with lots of vibration (people walking around in the same room as the crib) then it won't always be picking up just the baby. Since I am asleep and not moving around or she is alone in the room when it is in use I have never worried about this.

The sound monitor is top notch. Very clear and very little problems with noise. Once in a while something would give it static. But moving it to another place on the shelf usually solved the problem. It has a good long range too.

We love this product. I don't know how parents have survived this long without such a wonderful item. If you are looking for this kind of item, don't hesitate. Your baby and your life too, are very well worth this small investment. After all, dinner for two can cost you about $50 to $75 or more. What's $100 for something so well worth it??

Customer Review: Do yourself and your baby a favor...BUY THIS!
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this monitor before my son was born, unsure if it was worth the price. Now we are completely sold. I would have paid more for it because the peace of mind it has given us is priceless!! When our son came home from the hospital, we became paranoid about SIDS. (They bombard you with so many warnings about it now.) This monitor is the only thing that allowed us to sleep at all. I'm sure my husband and I would have gotten up repeatedly during the night to make sure our only child was ok if it were not for this monitor. We actually did that during the first week, before we realized we could truly depend on this montor. I have known people whose children died of SIDS and it is so devastating. Knowing that this monitor would warn us if he weren't breathing in time to still save his life is more valuable than I can express!

I have read others' complaints about reception and false alarms, but I haven't had that much trouble. We have had one alarm where our son just rolled off the pad, and one that we couldn't figure out why it went off. It might have been a freak thing, or maybe he wasn't breathing and the noise startled him into breathing again. The only other times it has ever gone off is when we forget to turn it off when we pick our son up. That is our little way of accidentally testing it...and it works! Other reviewers are right, the reception is a little staticky for the sound part of the monitor. However, you can still easily hear what you need to hear- crying, cooing, or whatever your baby is doing. That is in no way enough to keep this from being a wonderful monitor. The good far outweighs the bad! You will especially appreciate it if your baby is premature/low birth weight, has GERD or apnea, or learns to roll early. All of the above applied to our son, and this thing has been a life (and sanity) saver. Buy this thing; you'll be glad you did!

Customer Review: Saved another life
Summary: 5 Stars

My little one is 8.5 months old and my situation was pretty much the same as the writer's above.

It was about 7:30PM my wife and I were down stairs talking when all of a sudden the SINGLE warning BEEP went off. We could not believe that it was the baby alarm, so we paused for a second then the main alarm went off, we dropped everything and ran up stairs and YES the baby's face was against the wall of the PACK AND PLAY sleeper!! She "appeared" to not be breathing or moving, but this situation went so fast who could assess? Anyway, I picked her up (very fast) and then she started moving and crying. Big REALITY check! When they are this small you can NEVER take their health for granted, if you do it WILL bite you in the butt.

I'm in the military and a fellow soldier had a SIDS death just ONE MONTH AGO. That day his entire world changed forever. He had just sound monitor on the baby. The baby was gone for quite sometime before they even knew there was a major medical problem. In situations like this, had he had this device he WOULD have been alerted to the fact his infant had stopped breathing. Would it have saved the baby? The sad thing is we will never know--

The system detects the slightest movements (breathing, so on) It WORKS we tested it several times, and check it on a pretty regular basis. The entire 9 months this has NEVER gone off. We have taken the baby out at night to feed her and it went off but other than that, it guarded our baby when we slept, 12 hours a night and on naps.

We have purchased three of these for baby showers since we picked ours up 9 months ago. The strange thing is LOTS of folks have never heard of this device. But they LOOOOOVE us to high heaven after they know what it does.

It saves lives, don't go out to dinner one night and BUY THIS device, your baby's life could depend on it...

Customer Review: How Much Is Your New Baby Worth To You????
Summary: 5 Stars

some people are confused about how this thing works so briefly: you put this one and 1/2 foot by one foot rectangular flat thing under the baby's mattress and the sensor will "tick" with every breath or movement the baby makes. that way you know he/she is breathing. OR you can turn the ticking off and the alarm will sound if the baby doesnt move (or breathe) for 20 seconds or more. it will also transmit sounds like any monitor.

so- the worst part about this monitor is the price, i'll grant you. but really how much is your peace of mind (and a few hours sleep) worth to you? if you look at the almost 100 dollar price compared to the cheapie 30 dollar monitors, i'm sure it will give you pause as it did me. but after using this monitor for 2 babies, i gladly would have paid four times the price for the chance to be able to sleep knowing this machine would let me know if my baby was in trouble. yes, it will go off if your baby scoots off of it but when that happens we would say great! at least we know its working! so just stop using the motion detector feature when your baby is old enuf to scoot, or when the risk of sids is extremely low-about a yr i think. EVERY time someone asks what is the one thing they need when the baby's coming i ALWAYS recc this. i could work for the company, that's how good it is.

if you are paranoid or cautious or just plain nervous about having a newborn, GET THIS or you will never get to sleep!! how many times have you heard of a new mother getting up every two minutes to check on her baby to see if she is breathing? i'm so paranoid i'd even worry WITH this thing, worried that the power would go out! (but i believe there's a battery backup so i went to sleep finally!)

GET IT, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!! i will come to your house and set it up for you myself its that good!!

Customer Review: Must Have For Any Premature Baby! It Saved Our Baby...
Summary: 5 Stars

We had a premature baby born at just 26 weeks gestational age. When discharged from the hospital at 37 weeks gestational age, the doctors were convinced we did not need any type of home monitors since our baby boy had gone more than 10 days with no breathing lapses. However, for our own peace of mind, we decided to go ahead purchase one. We read the reviews both here and on Google and decided on this angelcare monitor. The monitor paid for itself the first week home...

On our fifth day home with our baby, we was sleeping peacefully around dinner time. We heard the angelcare alarm sound and ran in to find him not breathing and looking a bit blue. A quick tap thankfully stimulated him enough to gasp and start breathing again. Had we not had the angelcare monitor, he easily could have stopped breathing for a prolonged period.

We use our angelcare successfully with a Graco Pack-N-Play. In reading reviews before purchasing it, some people gave it a poor review because it did not work well with a Pack-N-Play bassinet. However, a quick trip to Home Depot after measuring the size of the mattress and a $5 purchase of a piece of masonite board (that Home Depot cut to my size request for free) was all it took to give the stability under the mattress that is required for the sensor to work.

We have had no false alarms with the monitor, other than forgetting to turn it off when we pick up our son! We are so thankful to have had it recommended to us and purchased it before coming home from the hospital. We highly commend it to any of you, especially those of you like us who had a premature baby and one with a prior history of apnea episodes.

PS - Our neonatologist at the hospital who said we did not "need" the monitor has since admitted to us that all of his grandchildren use it :-)
