Customer Review: Use a Hand-mixer - Cheaper and More Effective
Summary: 2 Stars

This was given to me as a gift, and I was truly excited about the product. My husband and I were adamant about our plans to prepare our baby's food ourselves. However, after a couple of uses it became apparent that the Beaba Babycook product was neither easy nor quick to use.

The steamer worked ok, but frankly I find just using a nice silicone steamer tray ($3.99 at your local grocery store) and my own pot worked just fine. Plus, since I freeze a couple weeks supply at a time, using "adult-sized" steamer / cookware meant I could make one large-ish batch rather than 2 or 3 too-small batches.

The blender component was totally inadequate. Either the speed was too slow or the blades too dull, but it took a LONG time for the food to be blended enough for our infant. If you are looking for a chunkier texture for an older child, perhaps this would be ok. And the dial was awckward to hold continuously during the blending process.

My suggestion:
1. Use your own pots & pans w/a steamer to cook the veggies, fruit, meats, etc.
2. Use a hand-held blender (like Braun's Multiquick) to really puree the foods. BONUS: You can actually use a
handheld blender for other things non-baby related.

Customer Review: MOLD forms due to DESIGN FLAW, and company will not return!
Summary: 1 Stars

Please DO NOT buy this product or anything from HEALTHCHECK SYSTEMS! I don't know how they can call themselves by that name. I happened to read another reviewer who found mold in the water reservoir, got an exchange, and had the same thing happen. I used this as intended with the splatter shield, and ran it through multiple de-scalings by using vinegar/water, and the mold did not go away- except some gets into the food basket each time you steam! So, your baby is eating his/her food with mold in it. The company says they don't have this problem- probably because they are ignorant and don't care about me sending it back to test it, and people don't know because it is hard to see into the reservoir. I have only used this for about 4 months and am very clean. The manager hung up on me! They refused to listen to what I had to say, and stand by their 30-day return policy! Mold does not grow in 30 days! They must know their product is garbage with that kind of return policy. I can't believe they are allowed to sell products under that name that can cause babies and children to get sick! It's no wonder my baby had a temporary "unknown" allergy! They do not have any concern! They should not be able to sell on Amazon!

Customer Review: Returned - Chemicals in reservoir
Summary: 1 Stars

I used my Beaba for the first time this week to make my 6 month old's food. There were some annoyance issues with its functionality (no beeping or alert to let you know when steaming is finished, smaller capacity which meant that one large sweet potato needed to be split into two steaming batches, and the fact that you have to hold the dial continuously during the puree stage or it turns off).

While I could probably live with those factors, I became concerned when I read reviews from other parents regarding mold and other materials in the reservoir. I got out a flashlight and decided to look at the reservoir. Although I had followed the instructions to run the machine through three steam cycles before you begin using it, the reservoir contained brown liquid spots in the bottom. I used a paper towel to try and get out the spots. The liquid was some sort of chemical lubricant.

If you wish to use this product, please make sure that you check the reservoir with a flashlight before and after each use. It seems pointless to go through the effort of making organic food for your child when the food ends up contaminated with mold or chemicals due to the Beaba's design.

Customer Review: Useful especially if you have a small kitchen, one safety concern though
Summary: 3 Stars

I live in a small apartment and don't have room for lots of gadgets (not even a microwave). I find this appliance to be worth the counter space. I like that you can steam and puree in one appliance, and that I don't have to lug out the steamer and blender to whip up some food.

Some reviewers say your baby will outgrow this machine's usefulness in a few months but I disagree. My baby eats mostly finger foods but still I use the Beaba a lot. I use it to reheat leftovers (again, we have no microwave) and also use it to chop or puree adult dinners that are two hard for baby to eat.

It's not a huge capacity but that doesn't bother me. After spending whole weekends steaming, blending and freezing veggies, just to discover that my kid's taste buds changed and what he once loved he now refuses, I'm over large scale baby food production.

One safety note! There is a little hole that the lid clicks into. That hole leads to the water chamber and I once accidentally tipped the machine over and scalding hot water came out of the hole and landed on my hand. I got a nasty burn. Definitely keep this machine well away from the edge of counters!

Customer Review: Food Particle Gets Stuck in Handle
Summary: 2 Stars

At first I was so excited about the Beaba! I even called all my friends and raved about it. Now after 10 months of use, I don't like to use it anymore. Why? Well because food particles end up stuck in the handle. The handle is made hallow so that the water can travel to the container and "steam" the food. This is a great idea, however, the Beaba designers forgot one very important aspect: You can't remove the handle and take it apart to clean! Food particles get stuck in the handle and there is NO WAY to clean. I am a clean freak and I have tried everything to clean the handle. I even used toothpick to get into the small opening of the handle, but nothing worked.

I now use a mini food processor and even if I have to steam veggies or fruit separately, the mini food processor is much stronger, can puree faster and make the food smoother.

So yes, I loved it at first, but now I have fallen out of Love. I used my Beaba daily, so maybe if you won't use yours much, then, it might be a good choice, but if you plan to use it daily and plan to use it for a while, you will see what I mean about the little pieces of food stuck in the handle.
