Baby Products Reviews of Beaba Babycook Baby Food MakerCustomer Review: Can't imagine making baby food without it Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE my Beaba Babycooker. I realize that you could pull out your pot and steam the veggies, then dump them in your large food processor or blender, but this is the way to go. It's very small so it takes up barely any counter space. Cleaning it is much easier than if I were to wash a pot steamer and food processor. My baby 6 months old and I have made countless meals with it already. I never plan on purchasing baby food and because of that I could not imagine making her food any other way. I highly recommend this product for anyone who is interested in making their children's food from scratch. The ease of use and joy I get out of feeding her fresh food far outweigh the cost (which isn't too steep to begin with).
Also in response to the negative comments I have read: I use purified water from a zero water pitcher in the well and over 2 months of constant use there isn't any type of build-up from hard water minerals or anything. I recommend using filtered or bottled water plus it's probably better for your child anyway. Many think you can't cook enough food. I like giving my baby fresh food and you can pack enough veggies to yield the equivalent to probably 6 baby food jars at a time. I don't freeze any food, but if I did it makes more than enough to. It's also so handy that it's easy for me to make a vegetable, clean it quickly, and follow it up with a fruit, etc. Cooking & cleaning are so fast that it's incredibly efficient. I know I sound like I probably work for Beaba, but I truly love mine and I really think opting for pots & pans followed by a food mill or hand mixer is a huge mistake.
Customer Review: Love it! And mold shouldn't be a problem... Summary: 5 Stars
Just received my Beaba today and made two purees for baby. It's convenient, easy to use -- makes making baby food a breeze. Before I was steaming in the microwave, which kills some of the nutrients, not to mention that the plastic I was using may or may not have BPA. With the Beaba I don't need to worry about this anymore! I just take whatever we're cooking for ourselves, pop it into the Beaba and by the time our dinner is ready, so is baby's!
I was a little hesitant to purchase this because I read some of the reviews about mold -- and it's difficult to know what the reviewers are referring to exactly without having the product in front of you.
Now that I've used the Beaba, I'm wondering if the people who complained of mold were following the directions. I can see how mold could form in the water reservoir if you don't empty it after use. Obviously, mold can form any where there is water pooling for extended periods.
However, the instructions clearly state to empty any water from the reservoir after each use, which I did immediately after using. I also left the top off just to ensure that any additional drops left inside would dry up. If you take this precaution, I don't see any way possible for mold to have the opportunity to form.
When the instruction booklet talks about descaling the reservoir using vinegar, it's to ensure there is no lime build up-- not mold.
After having used the Beaba, I don't think anyone interested in purchasing this should be turned off by claims of mold. If you take care of the machine properly, it won't be a problem.
Customer Review: Bought in 2008 and still going strong! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Beaba Babycook back in 2008 when it came to the US and was only available at Williams and Sonoma. We still use it practically every day for our little one and for us too. We started her out as a baby with steamed and pureed foods and now we just steam everything that can be steamed. I am happy to say that, perhaps thanks to the Beaba?, our toddler loves, loves, loves to eat steamed broccoli. She is the talk of the day care where she gobbles down her steamed broccoli like there is no tomorrow. I steam it and put it into an Aladdin 24-Ounce Micro Lunch Bowl, Grey, aVivo Kids Bento Box, Orange and Pink or a Foogo by Thermos Leak-Proof SS 10 oz Food Jar in Pink. Just make sure that you use the liquid and pour it over the veggies. Otherwise they may dry out after a while. I also like to reuse the liquid in noodles or rice for our toddler's lunches at daycare.
I'm surpised though that the price hasn't come down since 2008. But I heard that Sam's Club offers the product a bit cheaper...
Also, I mixed delicious ice coffee with vanilla icecream the other day - right there in the Beaba. Just had to make sure to clean it out properly later so as not to inadvertently mix caffeine with steamed broccoli...
It's true that the basket becomes a bit discolored but it's not really a big deal.
Customer Review: Awesome Product!! Summary: 5 Stars
Hey,
I'm a first time dad. This product is GREAT!! We could either be spending 50 cents or more for each premade baby food container from Gerber, or you can use this! So, to list off its pros and cons:
1. Really easy to use. Put some water into the steam side, put whatever you want cooked in the basket, turn it on, come back ~10-15 minutes later, chop it up in the blender side (we add more water and oatmeal at that point too), and then serve! Start to finish is about 20 minutes tops, and only about 5 of those minutes are you actually there doing anything (the rest it's steaming so you're free to do whatever while it works). Cleanup is very easy, just wash it out, which also just takes minutes, tops.
2. Cheap to use. Fruits and veggies are cheap to buy at the store, certainly cheaper than buying pre-made baby food. You'd be amazed how many meals one sweet potato will provide for a baby, I know I was! Plus, you can theoretically cook anything in it for your baby, although we have yet to expand past fruits and veggies.
3. Expensive to buy. On the other hand, we got this as a gift, so that wasn't a factor for us. The little bit more effort this is over buying premade food seems like a tolerable cost to us (we both work and this seems well worth it to get her quality food we make ourselves...plus it's kind of fun, haha.)
Ok, so that's pretty much it. My wife and I are really happy with this product, and would totally give it to other people in the future (if we liked them enough to spend $135 on them, at least, haha!)
Customer Review: Worth it for me Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this for a couple of weeks now, and I love it. If you don't want to spend the $, there are certainly cheaper ways to get the same end result -- fresh, healthy baby food. However, I'm a working mom of two who is willing to spend some extra $ for convenience and for the assurance that I am not going to forget that I'm steaming veggies on the stove and leave it on so long that it ruins the organic food I just spent a bunch of money on! The ease of use, from prep to clean up, is a big plus for me. Plus, I make small batches, with different combinations every time, so my daughter is getting a better variety of foods on a weekly basis than when I made food for my son (I made large batches of food with the pot/steamer/blender combo for efficiency, and there was only so much room to store it, and only so much time to steam all of the different types of food). I'm also more likely to make my own food on a consistent basis because of the convenience; in the couple of weeks I've had the Beaba, I've only reached for a jar one time in a pinch. It takes up very little space as well.
I would definitely recommend this product to someone who is willing to pay a bit more for some added convenience and ease of use. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the price tag, but I believe it's been worth it overall. It seems like a quality product and seems well made. If the price makes you cringe, just don't get it; you'll get by without it, for sure. If not, and convenience is important to you, then I would recommend giving it a try.
