My daughter is almost a year old now and this is still my go-to sling. I have a wrap (which I rarely used- too long and hassle) , a soft structured carrier which I use mostly at home to either put her to sleep on my back or when I'm doing chores, and this balboa sling. I've used it since my baby was small enough to fit inside it completely and I would go shopping with her sleeping in a cradle hold position. It took some time for her to get used to it though and she would fuss if she was awake but it made her fall asleep so fast that it didn't matter to her most of the time. When she was old enough to sit up she would sit facing out- although this looked uncomfortable she didn't seem to mind. She loved looking out and around in the sling and went along with me to shopping. This apparently was quite an attention getter as she looked adorable in it, like a kangaroo in his pouch. Now that she's crawling and much too big to sit in it completely I use it as a side straddle sling. It's great for quick trips where I need both my hands for something. I always take it on our outings although my husband carries her for the most part, sometimes if he gets tired or she wants to nap I take her and put her on me like a hip straddle, except she's inside the sling- and usually she'll fall asleep like this. It's not the most comfortable after a long time, but it's better than trying to carry around a soft structured carrier which has more bulk.
However this is definitely worth buying. I will definitely be using this for my other children as well.
Pros: Easy in and out. Lightweight. Can be worn during non-use and looks quite nice (will hide your pooch). Has two pockets (somewhat useful), padding feels nice. not too hot for the wearer. easy to wash- fast drying. Soft. Pretty. Easy to adjust. padded rims. High quality fabric. Sturdy- used it for a year and still looks nice
Cons: learning curve.. Took me a while to get used to inserting my baby into the cradle position. May need supporting cushion for very small babies. Not for long hours of use- shoulder painnnnssss !!! (like after 2 hours) Not completely unsafe. Risk of baby falling out (don't bend over without supporting baby with hands). some babies don't like being in a sling, may take some time getting used to. Cannot wear baby on the back. (Therefore, do NOT cook while wearing baby is in the sling. WHO DOES THAT??)
