Customer Review: Take it from a Mom of 2 ages 13 and 3, this is the best item you can buy...
Summary: 5 Stars

I had ten years between my children to watch items evolve and become better. I have to say, I worked in a Daycare center when my daughter was young and we used the Diaper Genie....it was not very friendly. Pulling out a string of poopy diapers and trying to put them into another bag to dispose of them was not my idea of fun. I originally picked the Diaper Genie for my son and by the time he was a month old, I remembered all the reasons I hated it (especially the costly refills.) I finally purchased this diaper pail and I absolutely love it. My son is now 3 and we have used it with incredible success since he was about 2 months old. There are a few things you have to do....
1. when you put the diaper in, make sure you have rolled up the diaper and secured the tabs to the diaper, if you don't the tabs get stuck when you try to roll the top with the next diaper (my darling hubby does this all the time...irritating)
2. You wouldn't use your toilet for 3 years without cleaning it so why would you expect that from a diaper pail? You have to at least wipe it down with some Disinfecting wipes. I also spray it with Lysol everytime I change the bag (which is once a week on Sunday night) and I keep a dryer sheet in the bottom just to help with the smell because it does after all house poop and urine and they never smell good.
Overall, this is a great diaper pail and I recommend it to all my friends. I would buy it every time if I were to have 10 more children.

Customer Review: Great price! Does the job!
Summary: 5 Stars

I put this on my baby registry because several friends highly recommended it. My daughter just turned a year old and I still cannot complain, and neither can my husband (except when he has to empty it!).

Although the Diaper Champ does not keep the odor completely sealed, I am positive NO product out there can. A toddler's dirty diaper is unlike a newborn's, and considering what my daughter's diapers smell like now that she's on regular food, this product is amazing. Also, considering the number of poopy/wet diapers that go into the Diaper Champ on any given day, I am very pleased with the product.

We use large plastic bags from various stores that we shop at, thus helping the environment by reusing (green friendly!). I like the fact that we don't need a special bag or filter or anything like that.

The product is pretty much assembled and it is simple to use. Roll up the diaper and pull the tabs around it to seal it. Toss it into the Diaper Champ and flip it over. The diaper falls into the pail, and the odor is pretty much sealed in! To make sure it doesn't get stuck, change the bag regularly, make sure the sticky tabs on the diapers are not stuck to the side of the pail, and never throw in a wipe/tissue by itself. Spray the Diaper Champ weekly or bi-weekly with Lysol, and/or wipe it down with an antibacterial wipe. It really is user friendly and environmentally friendly compared to other similar products!

Customer Review: Amazing product with no smell...if you use it properly!
Summary: 5 Stars

Once you use it properly this product is amazing. Unfortunately the instructions that come with it are pretty awful.

Through trial and error I discovered that the following two steps are essential for eliminating the odor problem:

1) seal the dirty item very well. I use this product to dispose of my dog's wee-wee pads, not diapers, but they can smell pretty bad. I figured out how to fold up the soiled wee-wee pad so smells don't escape and then I put a little tape to keep it sealed. Diapers probably don't require this extra step since they already have built-in tape you can use.

2) when you deposit the diaper/pad make sure to return the handle to its original resting position. When I first got the Diaper Champ I put the pad in, flipped the handle, and left the handle in that position. BIG MISTAKE since the side of the piston that usually faces the pads/diapers stinks, thereby defeating the purpose.

Once you put the pad in the cavity, flip the handle so the piston pushes the pad down, and then you return the handle/top to its original "resting" position. The smelly side of the piston continues to face the stinky pads/diapers and the clean, non-stinky side remains on top.

Before getting this product I had to make many trips to the garbage chute. Since getting the Diaper Champ I throw out the bag about once a week. It's great!!

Customer Review: Great Product!!
Summary: 4 Stars

I used the Diaper Champ with my first child (now seven years old) and it was such a great product. I will buy another one since I am now seven months pregnant.

1. I used the same 13 ton Costco trash bags for the Diaper Champ as I used for the kitchen trash can. No buying proprietary bags!

2. This contraption is so easy to use, throw soiled diaper into the whole, flip the handle and it's gone. I changed the bags once every 5-6 days.

2. As baby's diet changes and smell gets worse, you must use DIAPER SACKS (I use these at every diaper change from birth) before throwing them into a diaper pail or trash can!! They are these small blue, scented bags (200 bags by Sassy for $7.00). I also use these when on the go: at a friend's house, I use these to eliminate odor. When out and about, and there are no trash cans nearby, I keep soiled diapers in sack in my diaper bag until I get the chance to throw it away.

To be honest, if you were squeezed for money and space, and don't mind throwing diapers into the household trash can, the diaper sacks alone will keep in the smell and do the trick. I just personally prefer having a designated diaper pail for diapers myself.

I gave it four stars because if you throw wipes alone, it will occasionally get stuck.

Customer Review: Redesign gone wrong
Summary: 2 Stars

We have had an older version (or design) which we have had happily used for about a year and a half until 2 years ago. Then the insulation lining wore off and we trashed it. Shortly before my daughter was born, we purchased our second Diaper Champ. That was a year ago. It was supposed to be improved in design. Unfortunately, they totally botched it.

First, we had to wrap around the velcros and all pointy corners of the diaper into a perfect ball to be able to dispose it. Otherwise, it would get caught in the two-way flipping mechanism. We either had to push the so-called "one hand flip handle top" in by hand or we had to open top to release the stuck diapers.

Second, they designed the new body to be wider at the bottom and narrower at the top. So when the trash bag filled up all diapers settled down at the bottom. As we tried to pull the bag up we struggled to pass the big belly of the trash bag filled with soiled diapers through the narrower opening of the pail.

I give two stars because if you can use this pail paying attention to the pointers above, it does not emit any odors. It keeps the bad smell in. And you don't have to pay extra for special bags.

We haven't been able to use our "new" diaper pail for a long time, because of these reasons.
