Baby Products Reviews of Baby Trend Diaper Champ in Blue

Customer Review: Terrible product, waste of space and plastic
Summary: 1 Stars

Do you like wrestling with a big plastic bin?

Do you like opening up the cover to see why the mechanism is jammed every time you try to dispose of a diaper?

Do you like having to open the cover and shove down the diapers after only a few are in there?

If so, this is the product for you.

If not, may I recommend making an investment in a quality trash can with a lid that closes. That's about as good as you're going to get with these diaper pale products.

My wife and I are dealing with our newborn and we are using cloth diapers. We generate many per day, meaning that even if this device worked as promised, which it does not, we would still need to empty it several times a week into a larger bag for collection by our didy service. Consider whether you enjoy moving dirty diapers from one plastic bag to another.

But that hardly matters, because the device does not work properly anyway. I'd say when the device is completely empty, it jams two out of three times. When it is half full or more, it jams 100% of the time.

Seriously, I have never seen a more poorly engineered product in my life.

Ever.

Stay away.

PS -- Why is zero stars not an option?

Customer Review: I LOVE my diaper champ! Highly recommended!
Summary: 5 Stars

First: I got the diaper genie for my baby shower and could not get it to work. I can't imagine paying $5 for 1 refill!

Second: We just used a small stainless steel lidded step trash can for diapers and emptied every couple days. Kept the stink in when closed, but very stinky when opened.

Third: Someone gave me the older version of the diaper champ. I liked it, but it has a few issues:
1) the barrel was narrow so when diapers got larger, sometimes it would get stuck
2) difficult to close completely after changing the bag (had to squeeze the sides of the plastic barrel to fit the lid-this was a common problem and listed in the instruction manual).

Last but not least: They addressed the problems in the older model and now this model is great!
Highly recommended because:
1) Easy to use (flip lid, keeps the stink in)
2) No refills to buy-uses tall kitchen bags
3) Large barrel-we change about once a week
4) Easy to change bag and easy to close

I wish I got this the first time around!

Tips/Notes:
-must roll up poop diapers before putting in the barrel to avoid mess

Customer Review: Ok for first few months
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought the diaper champ when I was expecting my first child because I did not like the idea of having to buy refills and liked the one-handed operation. This is very helpful when holding a baby. It worked well for the first few months. I sanitized it with Lysol at every bag change (about once every 3 days) and cleaned it inside and out every 2 weeks. Then, when my daughter was about 5 months old, I started noticing the smell in her room. I tried soaking in bleach and more, but could not get the smell out. I realized that it was just getting worn - plastic rubbing down and allowing fumes to escape. The smell was not overwhelming, but not acceptable to me for my house. So, I moved it to just outside our back door. We still use it every day (she is now 10 months), it is just outside. It does not smell as you walk by since it is outdoors - not a closed bedroom. It worked well while she was young and needed changed in the middle of the night, etc. Now it is ok outside - still like the one-handed operation and no bags. Hopefully, they make some improvements before we have our next child.

Customer Review: good for the first few weeks but...
Summary: 2 Stars

i purchased the diaper champ because i wanted to be able to use kitchen bags. i like that feature...no need to purchase additional bags. the diaper champ was a convenience item for my daughter's first 8 to 10 weeks. it was easy to toss her diaper in the diaper champ and forget about it. however, after around week 10, her diapers started to smell a bit more. since that point, i have no longer used the diaper champ because the smells were just too strong. so it is sitting unused in the nursery. i am glad that i had it for those first few weeks because it made things that much easier when my sleep depraved body didn't feel like doing much. i'm glad that i have it for my next child. but now that i don't use it at all because the smell was quite strong, i had to give it a lower rating.

additional info: i now throw away my daipers in the kitchen trash and just throw out each day. very easy. my daughter is 100% breast fed so i don't know if that makes a difference with diapers. i can't imagine using one of these containers once real food is introduced.

Customer Review: Easy to use but still a little stinky.
Summary: 4 Stars

I opted to buy a Diaper Champ over a Diaper Genie because I didn't want to have to buy special bags to fit inside, and the Champ seemed easier to use. It is VERY easy to use! Target plastic shopping bags fit perfectly (but be sure to turn them inside out or you'll have red all over the inside of the Champ from the red bulls eyes on the bags). I always roll up the wipes in the diaper and secure with the tabs before putting it in the Champ. The only time I've ever had a problem with a diaper getting stuck (or basically the handle not flipping over) is when the Champ is full. I would definitely recommend changing out the bag every 2-3 days to minimize the stink...sometimes we go a week before changing out the bag and it does get quite stinky. I wipe the Champ down with bleach cleaner every time we switch out the bag and I also spray it with an antibacterial/odor eliminating spray on a daily basis to try and minimize the odor. Overall, this is a great product and I highly recommend it!
