Baby Products Reviews of Baby Trend Diaper Champ in BlueCustomer Review: Taking it back!!! Summary: 1 Stars
I just purchased this product earlier this afternoon after researching diaper pails for the past week and again all morning. Although this got mixed reviews the overall rating appeared to be better than most, so off to Toy's R Us we (my 5 month old and I) went in the subzero temps. I have the diaper genie II and it is great, but I just don't like having to buy the special bags nearly every two weeks, it really adds up! Needless to say, I will continue to buy those special bags and will be taking the Diaper Champ back. It does not turn, well it does, but it is really hard to turn and you have to make sure that you stand on the foot peddles on each side of the bottom of the pail or it will not even budge, but rather the entire pail lifts off the ground. I don't know about you but I have my diaper pail in a corner against the wall next to the changing table in the nursery not out in the middle of the room so that I can swaddle it with my legs to keep it from tipping over just to get the handle to turn each time I change a diaper.
Also, in another review I read that there were places on the inside to hang bags, like those plastic grocery bags that we all have a ton of, but this one did not have any of those tabs.
I am not satisfied with the diaper champ and I will be returning it after my husband gets home from work (don't want to take our 5 month old back out in the subzero temps again today if I don't have to) and buying some more of those special bags for the diaper genie II.
Customer Review: Nice idea, but doesn't stop the stink! Summary: 3 Stars
My sister and I had babies at the same time. She got the Diaper Genie 2 and I got the Diaper Champ. After using it for 2 1/2 years I am very disappointed. I'm ready to go out and buy a Diaper Genie II Pail System. The bottom line is mine stinks and her's does not.
I chose the Diaper Champ because I didn't have to buy special bags for it. It was simple to assemble and easy to use (my 2 year old likes to throw his own diapers away and flip the top). The Diaper Champ worked well for Newborn diapers, because they didn't have a very strong odor, but older child diapers (from kids on solid food) were just too strong smelling for this diaper pail. I had it in my son's bedroom at first, but after it started smelling up his room I had to move it into the bathroom. I empty it once a week. The smell is permeating the room by then. It helps if I tie the diaper in a plastic grocery sack before putting it in the Diaper Champ. It also helps if I wipe all the surfaces with a disinfecting wipe each time I empty it. But my sister doesn't have to do any of this with her Diaper Genie 2. She just drops the diaper in and then empties the pail once a week - and no smell.
If you really don't want to buy special bags, are willing to empty your diaper pail often, and clean it well then the Diaper Champ may work for you, otherwise stick with the Diaper Genie - it really works!
Customer Review: Old one was great, this one's even BETTER! Summary: 5 Stars
First and foremost, it does what it purports to do: contains diaper stink. It can smell a bit when opened to change the bag (umm, it is full of dirty diapers, afterall), but it contains the stink beautifully while closed and in use. I also spray it with Lysol and let it air dry each time I change the bag, but that's probably overkill on my part.
Second, it uses ANY bags. Personally, we find Target bags (the kind they bag your stuff in at the checkout) to work very well. The handles loop over the 'tabs' inside the Champ (yes, they're still there - to answer a prior review), and then tie up quite nicely to pitch. Plus, they're completely free (a big plus in my book).
There's also no 'trick' to using it. No twisting this way or that. No pushing far enough down in. No mashing down of any handle to make it work. Just drop the rolled up diaper in the opening and flip the handle, the weighted cylinder does the rest. I do recommend making sure that everything is contained (ie. wipes, etc are rolled up in the dirty diaper), but that's just my preference.
BEST of all - this one's a BREEZE to open. The old one took some force to wrangle open to change the bag. Now all you need to do is push the button and lift. SO much easier, and a huge improvement to an already great diaper pail.
Customer Review: Works Well For one baby Summary: 4 Stars
It works well for our infant daughter. When we purchased this product we were concerned with the smell which results from an accumulation of diapers. We were also concerned with rather a device like this is cost effective. One of the nice features for this diaper pail is that you can use your own kitchen trashbags- 13 gallon size. Another likeable feature is that for the most part it does in fact keep the smell to a minimal level or you do not smell it at all. There are a few things that are sort of annoying about it. First, the sinker does not go all the way down at times. So, you have to manually push it down. The second problem is that sometimes the daipers catch on the inside so you have to pull them out. Yet, both of these issues are very easy to remedy. We used natural oil on the sinker so when it goes down it will not stop. You will have to do this every now and then. The other issue is that most of the time when a diaper catches underneath it was a result of the sticky tabs from the daipers not being secured to the diaper. Just make sure you have them secured before you throw it in or it will be a pain to get out and fix. Also be aware that with any dirty diaper storage container you will need to use a disinfectant cleaner on the inside and out because it still will have a residual smell
Customer Review: Not new and improved!!! Summary: 2 Stars
I just purchased my second diaper champ, as I have two children in diapers and another on the way. I finally gave up on the diaper genie, I just couldn't get the smell out of the plastic. So I go to the store to buy another diaper genie for the second nursery and find that it is a new design. I read the description and think it must be better than the old design and since I like the old one I will love this one.
Boy was I wrong. First off you have to put this together yourself by simply snapping on the lid. This was not difficult, but I immediately notice that it does not flip as smoothly as the original and the seal doesn't seem as tight fitting.
I do like that it is wider at the top, but it is also shorter and you need to bend more, something us parents do too much of during the day as it is.But I am still willing to give it a try.
After three days use I notice the room has that oh so familiar smell of dirty diapers. I thought at first it was the trash can that still had a few diapers in it from our transition phase of not having a diaper pail for a day, but after removing the can I still notice the smell. The new design does not prevent the smell from escaping and it will be going back, I just hope I can find one of the old designs left on the shelf.
