Description of Baby Hawk Mei Tai Baby Wrap Carrier
The mei tai is a traditional Chinese style of baby carrier, consisting of a rectangular "seat area" with four straps: two that tie around the wearer's waist and two that go over the shoulders. It is great for carrying babies of all ages, on front or back. The BabyHawk Mei Tai has a "framed" construction style which we find very attractive and easy to wear, and its lightly padded, trapezoidal headrest provides a soft head support for your baby (as well as some cushy upper-back support for toddlers). Shoulder straps are lightly padded as well. Customer Review: not for squirmy babies or short moms

I read lots of reviews before ordering a Babyhawk. I was influenced by a salesperson who said they were comfortable for people with narrow shoulders...better than ERGO. Also, I loved, loved, loved the look of these carriers. It was fun ordering the exact fabric and medallion. However, as soon as I tried to put my son in it, after special ordering it (meaning, no returning it) I knew we had a problem--my son would not willingly let me put him in it on the back, and I realized my arms were too short to position him in the back without endangering him. I was so disappointed. The directions included in the package and online both tell you how to put the baby in it on your back, and I simply cannot manage to do it without dangling him while he is very very squirmy and unhappy. I've tried again and again, and now my son cries when I even try to put him in it on front or back. Needless to say, it has been a real disappointment. I really looked forward to getting it, and have hardly used it at all. The one way that was successful for a little while was with my son facing me on front while I walked or exercised on the treadmill--he fell asleep and didn't mind that he wasn't facing forward (another problem for us, since my son loves to look forward).
Anyway, I'm now ordering an ERGO, in hopes that he'll like it better. The ways that you can put the baby in the ERGO look much more short-mom-friendly.
All that said, other people love these carriers, including people I know. So it is certainly possible to have good success with them if you aren't too short (I'm 5'0") and have a more mellow baby. My son is just a fun, active, squirmy kid, and he didn't want to be flipped over my head and dangled to get in the carrier.
