Baby Products Reviews of Baby Einstein Play GymCustomer Review: Great playmat for kids! Summary: 4 Stars
We got this mat for my daughter at 4-5 mos old. We bought this one and another one (different brand, different mat) and this one is by far superior to the other one we bought. It is very colorful with good toys, and the music that the star plays is good music and plays for quite a while. And my daughter loves the light show that the star puts on! The only problem I had with the mat is that twice the star quit playing music and only the lights would work, HOWEVER i still gave this mat 5 stars because I notified baby einstein about the problem with the star and they very promptly responded and sent me a new working star. So now we have the musical star on the mat and the one that has only working lights is just in the bin as an extra toy. All in all, this is a great playmat, easy to take apart and wash and easy to change the toys around so baby doesn't get bored. Definitely worth the money, and baby einstein provides good customer service too.
Customer Review: Two Years and Still Entertains Summary: 4 Stars
Like many reviewers have stated, this toy is all about the star. My son received this toy when he was born in December 2007. He would happily lie on the play mat and watch that star for 30 minutes at a time. While he's outgrown many of the toys on this playmat, he still enjoys shaking the star and playing with it. My daughter was born in March 2009 and the toy still works well. The play mat and hanging toys are easily washable in a washing machine.
My only gripe is that the star no longer works via motion detector mode by merely kicking or shaking the bars. I'm not sure if this was caused by product defect, or by the shaking my son put that toy through, but it still works fine in the "play through" mode. Outside of that, this toy is fantastic - it kept my son entertained for minutes at a time when he was a baby and it's keeping my daughter busy now! Highly recommended!
Customer Review: Better than I hoped for Summary: 5 Stars
Although my baby is only 7 weeks old, he sort of likes this activity mat. I just got it and he seems interested in it but only for a short time. That could be simply because his attention span only lasts about 10 minutes. I do like this mat, after looking at many, many other comparable sets this seems to have it all. The musical star is entertaining and the songs aren't horrible, in other words it doesn't drive you crazy as a parent when its playing tunes and the variation is tolerable. The mat is bright and colorful, and there's plenty of toys and loops to hang them in different spots to make it look different every time the baby plays with it. I am hoping he grows into it and starts playing with it more as he begins to roll and prop himself up. It's a great toy for a newborn to introduce them to the idea of playing. I would recommend it for parents (like us) who work at home.
Customer Review: great idea but poor quality Summary: 2 Stars
My son also loved the star. He didn't seem to care much about the other items or the mat, in particular. My wife and I prefer the Rainforest mat instead as it is easier to place him on it and pick him up. Honestly, we loved the star, too, and with a little patience we learned to enjoy the music knowing how much our son was entranced by it and the lights.
Our biggest disappointment was that the star did not work well on motion setting and the sound died after just 2 months. We replaced the batteries and removed the cover to make sure no wires were loose. With the back off it worked well and then, as soon as the back was back on again, it was silent.
We returned it to Costco a few days ago and are now sadly searching for a better star. I do not recommend this item due to poor quality.
Customer Review: Not for all babies Summary: 4 Stars
I have an older edition of this gym that we recieved as a baby gift in December 2006. My son was born in January of 2007. He loved this mat from the begining. I could put him on it and he loved the star and making it play music. He also loved reaching and grabbing and playing with the toys. He spent a lot of time on this mat until he could roll over then we just let him play with the toys. My second son, born March 2009, so far hates this mat. I can put him on it for about 5-10 minutes then he starts screaming. He dosen't seem to like the star at all and he has no interest in the toys even when they are not hanging or near the mat. He is almost 5 months old. I do like how easy it is to pick up this mat. You don't have to detach anything to fold it in half.
