We received this mat as a gift for our 2 month old and it's definitely been the toy that's captivated him the most thus far.

Pros: He really likes the mirror and it is easy to position the dangling toys so that he can hit and kick them, which causes him (and us) endless amusement :) The mat feels nice and there is a lot to entertain him.

Cons: I laundered the mat per instructions after our son was sick on it. It cleaned up fine, but came out of the washer covered in what looks like tiny pieces of tissue, which could possibly be a choking hazard. I've only had to wash it once so far, so I don't know if that happens every time, but it was a pain to clean it up before leaving it to dry. Also, the electronic toy is not my favourite - the flashing lights are fast and erratic and after getting down to my son's level and looking at it from the same distance as he was, I ended up switching it off because it just seemed like way too much stimulation; there was no pattern to the lights and they were sooo much faster than the music it just didn't seem like a good idea to have that happening 6' from my sons eyes.

So in conclusion, using it without the electronic toy, it's a great product. Lots to see and play with and most importantly, my son likes it. As a gift, I'm happy with it. If we'd paid $[...] for it, I'd probably return it and get a mat with a different lights/sound component.

Customer Review: Baby LOVES it - necessity
Summary: 5 Stars

My 4-month-old absolutely loves it! I think his favorite toy is the octopus, we always put it at the top and he bats at it and kicks at it and cracks up. He gets so excited when hes laying on this mat looking at the toys. He loves having the musical aquarium too. I don't care too much for the whale pillow although it is cute. I had to add on a few more entertaining toys, but it is still way better than the other Infantino playmat I bought.

CONS:
The price is ridiculous most places, but thankfully I found it here on Amazon for $30 cheaper than other places. Still not sure it is worth $50... but it entertains my son so I don't regret buying it one bit.
Now, the REASON it is not worth the price is because it seems cheaply constructed. The loops on the mat part that hold the bars down are already ripping off after a couple of weeks. The loops are just not sewn on strong enough to secure down the bent toy bars, because the toy bars want to straighten out. I may have received a defective one? Its not even that big of deal because it can probably be sewn back together.

CONCLUSION:
No play mat is going to be all that it is advertised to be, pictures always make them look like they have more toys and so on. However, this play mat seems to be the closest to what its drummed up to be. I think the baby einstein playmats in general seem great.

I would recommend buying it. Its not perfect, but its close.

Customer Review: Not bad but not good either
Summary: 3 Stars

This gym is fine for small babies. My daughter went on it for hours a day. Unfortunately she hated tummy time so we didn't really use it for that. She laid on it and liked the octopus and the music when she was finally old enough to activate and touch the items herself. We never used the whale pillow and we barely used the plastic cards with the real life pictures. Rather we hung other items from links from the hanging tabs that were within her reach or easily viewable. We also put the aquarium on the side attached to the 2 poles and it caused one of the poles to sag slightly. And we had it set up correctly. The poles need to be parallel, not crossed. The material does wash pretty well ( the underneath had some pillage) which is good because the mat is made of a slippery material that caused her to sweat profusely- and she used the gym in the winter months. Once she learned how to roll over we were done with it. It was too small for her to stay on, she kept getting stuck on the poles and she just outgrew it. So it did last us 5 months or so. But it just seemed that once it become really age appropriate she outgrew it. We saved the bag it came in and it is put away and went back in nicely. I do wish we had gotten one that could have been used when she was able to sit. Some other gyms do have pieces that you can sit on the floor and your child can play with it from a sitting position. At least with those you might be able get more use out of it.

Customer Review: Cute but needs improvement
Summary: 3 Stars

We bought this for our son before he was born, back when we were captivated by all things baby but had no idea how to look for something that actually amuses baby. We set up the toy when our little boy was only one-week-old. At that time, it was hard to tell what amused him or not so we were convinced this was a hit. Now that he is 3-months-old, and starting when he was 2-months-old, we've had to make some major alterations to this to keep it relevant. We had to add more hanging toys and remove a few that came with it. I have no complaints about the lights and music part - its cute and keeps him occupied. But some of the toys it came with are downright lame. I appreciate the attempt to include the bilingual cards for the words "turtle" and "fish" but I don't think they are age appropriate. They're more suited for a one-year-old (who I doubt will be using a playmat). The octopus is okay (saved by the rattle) but poorly constructed. The mirror is more like a funhouse mirror than a real mirror (our little boy prefers real mirrors).

Overall, its fine. It does what it needs to do and has room to attach more toys. However, for the price (we paid $70), I'd like it to come with better toys.

Customer Review: Keeps baby interested for so long!
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this gym when expecting our first child because of the great reviews it got. As a newborn, she really wasn't interested, but at 2 months old, it kept her busy for an hour. I was soo excited, now at 3 months she plays with it several times a day and usually tires herself out, takes a nap and wakes up to play again. She usually goes at it for a little over an hour before I take her to do something else so she doesn't get sick of it...my husband and I also get on the floor and play with her on it a lot, but she plays by herself for the most part. The mat itself is also really soft, so I feel better she is not hitting the hard floor when she is kicking. The motion toy is also really great because it has turned into a kick and play item for her. She gets the reward of the lights and music when she kicks it. She hasn't used it for tummy time yet, but that will soon come. I expect it will also be great since it has so many colors and things to do with just the mat itself without the toy bar.
