Baby Products Reviews of Baby Einstein Lights & Melodies Discovery CenterCustomer Review: Still Using It... Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the caterpillar when my son was 2 and a half months old. I wanted something that would entertain him even though he wasn't capable of interacting with a toy just yet. We would lay him in the boppy underneath it and he would watch the lights and listen to the music. He really enjoyed it. We joked that it was his first playstation. He would kick at the ball and star. When he got a little bigger, and was reaching for toys, he would grab at the toys and turn the music on with his feet. Then he got bored with it for a while. Now he is 7 months old and sitting up unassisted. I pulled it back out for the first time in about a month, and raised it up. Now he sits in front of it and is enjoying it at a whole new level.
So, we've had the toy for 5 months now, and it was unused for 1 month. For those 4 months, he played with it on a daily basis. And you know, I have never changed the batteries on that thing! Overall, we're pretty happy with it.
Customer Review: Innovative new toy for 3 months and up Summary: 5 Stars
The best feature of this toy bar is the rattle tether ball. When baby is first learning to use his hands, he can bat at this (almost like punching a speed bag) to work on hand-eye coordination. My son would do this for several mintues at a time when he was 3months old. There were few other toys he could manipulate well with his hands at that point so this was a favorite. The music is great and it's a very sturdy product. The down sides are that it's not as easy to adjust to the different positions/heights as I would like but at least you can adjust it as baby changes. The music note that baby is supposed to push to turn on music isn't that easy to do since little babies usually pull on things instead of push. However, you can put it on continuous play and there are other ways of getting the music started. I'm sure in a couple of months my son will love putting the tether ball through the hooop instead of just batting it - what a neat feature.
Customer Review: Best Infant Toy Available Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first toy our daughter was able to play with on her own. At two months she learned to kick the green hoop and start the music on her own. She loved seeing that her actions had a reaction. This toy can be adjusted for many uses as well. I picked this toy, because I thought the hard plastic would be easier to keep clean than similar toys made of fabric, and it really has been. It's easy to put anywhere, even in the crib (only when I'm with her, monitoring, though.) My daughter is now 9 months old, and she still loves this toy. She can sit with it as well as play with it as she works at pulling herself up. Honestly this has been the best toy we could have picked. Every infant needs one!
Customer Review: Go caterpillar! Summary: 4 Stars
My daugher used this from about 4 months to 10 months. As she got older and we adjusted the legs, she would push it like a walker. The music sounds a bit like a slot machine's and we all wished that there was more to interact with besides the dial of animal noises and the songs for the rest of it. My daughter never really played with the basketball, star, or spinning swirly things, so if it had sounds associated with using those parts, I think she would have gotten more use out of it. This fits perfectly into a Pack-n-Play, so we often used the Boppy to prop her up to play with the caterpillar.
Customer Review: Good for a baby who can sit up Summary: 4 Stars
This was great for when my son was just sitting up and crawling a bit. It was bad for when he started to pull up. Even though the unit will raise up to be of interest to taller kids, that lessens the base at the bottom and makes it highly unstable for supporting a kid pulling up to play with it. Even the lowest setting is pretty unable to support their weight. but the activities on the unit kept my son engaged and were good for that short period of time between sitting and pulling up :)
