Baby Products Reviews of Baby Einstein Baby Neptune Carrier Toy BarCustomer Review: Just an 'okay' toy Summary: 1 Stars
I am changing my review, but am unable to change the star rating. I give it a '3' star rating now.
Be aware if you don't know already: You're not supposed to have any toys attached to the car seat in case of an accident, they become a projectile or at minimum hit the baby's head in an impact. A fireman inspecting the car seat told us this.
-You run a serious risk of hitting the baby's head when you put the baby in the car seat, or when you're taking them out of the car seat.
-I originally said the batteries were too expensive. In some stores they are - up to $9 for a set of 4. I found 4 replacement 'LR44' batteries for $1 at a craft store, of all places. So that is affordable.
-It's quite difficult to put these button-cell batteries back in. It took a few tries.
-I never used this toy in the car. I attached it to a horizontal bar in my house and my son played with it there.
Not a perfect toy - but I 'made it work' elsewhere, other than the car.
I definitely wouldn't buy it again if it broke, nor would I recommend it.
Customer Review: A winner with baby and big sister Summary: 4 Stars
When I first brought this home, my almost 3-year-old daughter was attracted to it like a magnet. I think she recognized the tunes from her Baby Eienstein DVDs. She was so enthralled with it that she took it to bed with her that night!
When I was finally able to get it back and give it to the baby, who is 6 months old, she liked it a lot too. She likes the music but also looking at the water part and batting at the fish that dangle down. I've actually been using it in the high chair as a diversion while I get her bottle or food ready. I've also attached it to the side of her crib occassionally and she really likes it there.
I do agree that with other reviewers that it could attach to the infant carrier seats in a better way -- it sits too high up on the handle so that the baby is looking at it from the wrong angle. I ended up attaching it to a different toy bar that suspends in an arch over the right part of the seat and it works great that way.
I have not experienced any issues with leakage (mentioned in another review).
Customer Review: Cute but not as safe as I would like it to be... Summary: 3 Stars
This carrier toy bar is cute and my baby likes it a lot. She loves the colors and the music.
I don't care for the velcro straps you use to attach this thing to the car seat handle. I have a Graco Snugride II seat and it's a stretch to position this toy where baby can see it and where the straps don't have an unsafe amount of tension on them at the same time. If only the straps were snaps, buttons, or clasps, anything besides velcro which could pop open at any moment, I would be happier. I am using it as a crib toy instead. This thing is made of hard plastic and isn't particularly light weight, so imagine if the stretchy velcro strap popped open and this toy was flung at your kid's head...see where I am going with this?
So my 3 stars are for entertainment value and the fact I managed to find some safer way to use this toy, but I take away two stars for the poor safety design on the straps. I don't think I would necessarily recommend this toy for the safety issues alone...
Customer Review: I am surprised by some people... Summary: 4 Stars
First of all, I am truly astonished at the number of reviewers who were making comments about the toy bar potentially injuring an infant if in a car accident...which I am in no way denying, however...the alarming fact remains that parents are actually leaving the infant carrier/car seat bar up at all while driving. I thought it was common knowledge that this, in of itself, is a very real danger to a baby if one was to get into a collision. This toy would be perfectly safe if not used while dangerously propping the handle up while the car is in motion. I suppose I was just being a bit pressumptuous to assume most people knew not to do this, but apparently this isn't the case. So, with that said, I do not believe that this toy is a danger on it's own merrits, as far as injuring a child while in the car. It is the bar/handle being propped up at all, and I think more people should take heed of this piece of advice.
Customer Review: Einstein-ian NOT Summary: 1 Stars
Cute, yes, but smart this toy is not. 1)When this toy is attached to the handle of the infant carseat/carrier, taking hold of the handle or taking baby in and out becomes difficult. 2)When my daughter really began enjoying her hands she was just a little over two months old, but the dangling items on this toy were still too far for her to ever succeed in reaching them. She would soon get frustrated or just plain bored. 3)The under-water part of this toy is really boring, too, the fish do nothing to captivate. 4)The music does need to be restarted often.
Get the WHOOZIT Activity Spiral instead. It's takes less than a second to place, or remove: it simply stretches between the two sides of the handle, and you can place it at whatever height you want to. It's colorful, interactive, soft (so it can be left with baby while driving). It doesn't play any music, but that's no big loss compared to the Einstein Neptune Bar.
