Baby Products Reviews of BABYBJÖRN Soft Bib 2 Pack - Red/BlueCustomer Review: awesome invention Summary: 4 Stars
These things are amazing. We've almost completely stopped using the old fashioned cloth bibs... they're just too messy and too much hassle.
About the only things I can say against these, are that the neck cord is too hard to fasten sometimes... and the strap sticking out is too tempting for little fingers to find more entertaining than the feeding. I can only hope that as our son gets older and bigger the strap getting smaller will get it out of his sight. The other down side to these bibs is the pocket can trap drool and food that then gets dumped out in a flood, rather than having a chance to soak in to whatever it's dumpped on... this can lead to the yuck traveling a lot farther. (and entertaining the baby a lot more.) If you've got a heavy drooler, a pause in the feeding to dump out the buildup can alleviate that.
Best features: the pocket allows crumbs to turn into finger foods. Quick and easy cleanups... a simple rinse and hang to dry will work for "neat" feedings, toss 'em in the dishwasher after the really messy ones, or if you are too busy trying to clean the kiddo's face to rinse the bib while dinner is still wet. (Just remember to put them in upside down, so that the pocket doesn't fill up with gunk in the wash cycle.)
UPDATE: Well, I still stand by what I wrote above for babies. Our toddler mentally outgrew this bib long before he phyically outgrew it. He knows how to undo the cord, and revels in undoing it and twirling the bib around. Flinging gunk all over. We've actually stopped using bibs all together at this point and will be passing these on to his about to be born cousin.
Customer Review: The Best Bib Ever Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these bibs and loved it so much that I got a couple more so that I would always have one for my son's diaper bag and an extra one if other kids were over. I've tried other pocket-type bibs before, but they always collapse on themselves and don't catch all of the food. I am the type of Mom who likes to prevent messes whenever possible and I got so tired of cleaning up the entire highchair after every meal and often having to change my son's clothes. He is 18 mo. old now and has definitely moved into the "I want to do it myself" stage and this bib helps me relax a little when he wants to eat his yogurt all by himself, but only has the coordination to get 1/2 of it in his mouth. With cloth bibs I was always having to rinse them and lay them out to dry before throwing them in the laundry basket or worse yet, my husband would just throw it in and it would be a crusty mess that I got to deal with later on laundry day. With these bibs I just rinse it, dry it off and I'm done. The only con I can think of is that the bib is a little bulky due to the material and fixed open basin. My son seemed a little restricted in his arm movements and he kept wanting to take it off at first. With time and persistence however, he has gotten used to it and he even helps me put it on now. So far it has proven to be super durable although I can't vouch for years of use yet as I've only had my original one for 4 months now.
Customer Review: Our favorite bib! Summary: 5 Stars
I received these bibs when my son was smaller and just being fed baby food. At the time he really didn't like them. I put them away for a couple months and tried them again when he was starting finger foods and already used to wearing bibs. This time around he was fine with them! We have the yellow/green set and it's endured many blueberries and lots of pasta sauce without staining. They are really easy to wipe off with a damp paper towel or sponge. Mine have always cleaned up fine so I haven't needed to put them in the dishwasher yet and they still look brand new after being used every day for the last 6 months. My son likes looking in the pocket to find the extra food he's dropped.
The material is a flexible plastic. I think from the description "soft plastic" some people are expecting a rubbery material. I have a rubbery type of bib and I find it hard to clean and the pocket sometimes collapses. This bib is definitely a plastic that holds it's shape while still being flexible. I like that the material is firm enough to hold it's shape so the pocket always stays fully open. My son still hasn't managed to pull this bib off and he's 15 months (although he gave up trying a few months ago). The circumference of the neck opening is 13". I can put it around my neck on the largest setting so I think it would fit most babies and toddlers.
Customer Review: They are small bibs. Summary: 4 Stars
These are pretty decent bibs, however they are not good when used with a high chair that has a tray attached. (Do a search on the one I have to get an idea Fisher Price Spacesaver High Chair)
I tried these bibs because the Pelican Bibs that we had been using fail and crack anywhere from 2 weeks after we start using them to 6 months. However until my toddlers are ready to be sittin at the big table, they won't be able to use these Babybjorn bibs.
If you have infants that you are feeding in your lap, or have a high chair without a tray, these may be your perfect bib, however wihtout the tray, the Pelican bib won't crack either because its not being flexed so much so long as you're careful washing.
These are smaller bibs however and don't provide as much area for catching dropped food, the pelican bibs work much better for that.
In short, these bibs will last longer than pelican bibs, but depending on your application, the pelican bibs might work better for you.
Customer Review: If You Only Buy One Set of Bibs Summary: 5 Stars
If you only buy one set of bibs, this should be the one. After all, they never have to be laundered, and the pockets are great for catching wayward items. Also, unlike many plastic lined bibs, this one is made Entirely of plastic; no cloth edging for me. Finally, the trough-like front allows me to drop cereal in it for times when my hands are not clean and he's snacking on the go.
Three things to add: (1) If your child has long hair, it can get caught in the clasp unless you lift it out of the way (common sense). (2) Also, not very fold-able for traveling. For the diaper bag/cooler, I highly recommend the Bibbity Rinse and Roll Bib by Kiddopotamus. Between these two brands, I need no other. (3) I was given the Baby Bjorn bibs by a friend whose two-year old refused to wear them. My son was 10 months at the time and didn't notice a change in bib style. Perhaps introducing the bib to a toddler with a favorite cereal pre-loaded in the "trough" would be more effective.
