Baby Products Reviews of BABYBJÖRN Little Potty - RedCustomer Review: Great for us after starting solids! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for my 4-month old to try to get him to poop in it. Mostly, we would just sit on there after a wet diaper change and wait. He wasn't a regular pooper yet.
I put it away for a few months, then after starting with solids, and with more solid poops, he poops there everyday! About a month ago (age 8 months) I started putting him on when he was obviously trying to poop, and he would sit there until he was done. He seems to know when to "ask" to get off.
The size is perfect for him - he is a big 9-month old (wearing 12-18 month clothes). He looks pretty comfortable, with feet flat on the floor. I usually give him a little something to play with if it is taking a while.
After he goes, we clean up, then bring the potty to the bathroom (we keep it in the living room, where he plays) and say bye-bye to the poop. It helps with cleaning to add water to the potty and swish before dumping the solids into the toilet. I usually give him a little 'diaper-free' time before putting on his next diaper. The whole thing is pretty cute.
Pooping on the little potty is one of my favorite parts of the day!
Customer Review: Great for Elimination Communication, too! Summary: 4 Stars
The Baby Bjorn Little Potty is the potty of choice for those practicing Elimination Communication (taking baby to the potty when they need to go, rather than relying exclusively on diapers). The small size makes it easy to help even newborns use it, with mom or dad close behind to support their body fully. As children learn to walk, they find endless excitement in learning how to sit on the potty by themselves. By the time our son was 18 months, he also started dumping this potty in the toilet by himself... a feat he could never have performed with a larger or more complicated potty.
The only ways they could make this potty better are: (1) a higher splashguard for boys (available on the Baby Bjorn Splashproof Potty, which is no longer distributed in North America, sadly); (2) A clear version (available in the Babywunder Potty from Germany); (3) a non-skid rim along the bottom (available on a similar potty a friend found at Target). But all in all, it's a potty that works for *all* ages... even the youngest ones!
Customer Review: Good and bad Summary: 3 Stars
We received this as a gift for our daughter as we are attempting to do infant potty training. The potty works well enough. It's deep enough, the size is right, and the color is cute. A couple of downsides, though.
One is that the shine dies really quickly if you use anything even semi-rough to clean it. (This really bothered my wife when I cleaned it with a rough sponge and the shine was gone.)
The other major downside is the design in regards to cleanup. You dump all the waste in the toilet, but the curvy edges and shape of the potty make for drips everywhere. When you dump out the waste, it immediately runs down the side of the potty and then start running to the underside edge a bit. I know that it's nice for the potty to have curved and soft edges everywhere for when it comes time for our daughter to actually sit on hit herself, but it sure makes for messy cleanup, unfortunately.
Overall, we're glad to have the potty, but those are the downsides we've seen thus far.
Customer Review: Simple is Better! Summary: 5 Stars
We traded our arm chair potty seats for this simple seat after seeing how easy it was for the little ones to use and how much better they like it. It does not tip like the other larger chair type seats. You don't have to worry about pinched fingers with this little seat that often happens with the chair type when the babies try ot lift and move the chair or pull out the potty holder. It is soooo simple to dump and clean. It takes up very little space. The little ones love it and can easily move it around and sit on it without having to scootch themselves onto it and worry with opening a lid like they did with the bigger seat chairs. And its design has a built in guard for the boys!!! I would highly recommend this over any other type of seat and we have tried a number of different designs.
Customer Review: Good Times Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this potty with the intention of waiting until my son could sit up on his own to try ec-ing. However, at 3 weeks, it seemed like he was waiting for me to take his diaper off so he could go. I set the potty on the counter in front of the mirror (with me standing behind him of course), and we've been having a great time with it ever since. Every time we change him, we set him on for a couple minutes. We make faces in the mirror, read a story, practice our ec-ing cues. Even if he doesn't go potty, it puts him in a good position for passing gas and burping. Since he struggles with gas, sometimes he'll cry when I lay him back down to put on the diaper. Back on the potty we go! Who am I to argue? In addition to holding on, we keep a skid pad underneath the chair.
