Baby Products Reviews of BABYBJÖRN BabySitter Balance, Brown/BeigeCustomer Review: Baby loves it Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this on my Amazon rec's and was a little doubtful about it because of the price. After watching some youtube videos of babies screaming in delight on it, I decided to take the plunge. Our daughter is only two months old, so she can't muster enough kicking force to rock herself (I don't think she even understand cause and effect yet), but putting her in the chair and rocking it with our feet has been a great way to calm her down when she's upset and brings out the biggest smiles. We've left it in the "sleep" position without the body restraint attached, but will probably start fastening the harness when she gets a little older and graduates to the upper two positions.
To try and teach her how to kick operate the chair, I've been placing my forearm underneath her feet then letting go to help her push off -- she loves this game. Today after playing the kick game for about 10 minutes, I stopped to eat some lunch and when I looked back, she had the saddest look on her face and I saw a lonely tear rolling down her cheek. Our daughter hasn't produced enough tears to actually come out of her eyes, not from immunizations, heel sticks, or having 8 hour diapers... until now.
Pros:
1) No automatic parts, so it stops when your baby stops. We were worried our daughter would get addicted to the vibrating chair.
2) Folds up nice and flat, easy to carry and it's light.
3) Proportional response to how much the baby is moving, I like this more than a swing.
4) Baby friggin loves it!
Cons
1) I think it's a little overpriced, so if you can find it somewhere for less than one hundred it's a little easier to stomach if the baby doesn't like it.
2) The toy bar accessory is really expensive. We had the Tiny Love Sunny Stroller Arch (less than half the price of the bjorn toybar) for her car seat and it attaches to the Bjorn too. When we first put it on and bounced, our daughter's eyes went wide in amazement at all the dangling bits swinging around.
Customer Review: Lets Mom Have Some Free Time! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought it when our son was 3 weeks old from a co-worker. If I hadn't been able to buy it from a friend, I would not have hesitated to pay retail for it. IT IS WORTH IT!!! Buying it after the baby was several weeks old really showed us how useful it is.
We can set him in the chair while we cook dinner, take a shower if the other parent is gone (with him in the bathroom), or just let him have some quiet play time.
My son absolutely despised tummy time until he was around 4 months old, so this was a total lifesaver. When he got tired of being flat on his back, I could set him up in this for a change of perspective and he would be perfectly content for 15-30 minutes. Trust me when 15-30 minutes a day of occupied, calm baby is worth the steep price they charge for this sucker. We also have the toy bar, and I will say that the baby does play with it.
I like that it's very well designed, has a relatively high weight limit, is very adjustable, and is simply designed with quality materials. We didn't want some garish, plastic, vibrating monstrosity in the middle of our living room.
We own the bjorn carrier (which I hate, but my husband couldn't say enough good things about), travel crib and babysitter, and they are all so convenient and well thought out.
When considering the high price, also realize that quality products will have a high resale value when you're done, vs. cheap plastic crap. So really, they potentially end up being a better buy, as you get more of your money back when you sell it.
Customer Review: Wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
When my baby was born 5 months ago I thought I could survive with a basic 2nd hand vibrating seat but after a few weeks it was clear she was uncomfortable and was already getting too heavy for it. When she was 7 weeks old I bit the bullet and bought this seat and haven't looked back since! We use it everyday, multiple times a day, and she is very happy in it. I can easily lift it with one hand and move it from room to room - a must when carrying a baby around. I've raised and lowered the level while she is in it, and although you're told not too, I can easily lift it with her in it and move it around (with one arm draped over her gripping the seat frame and one hand on the bottom bar). The only downside is the lack of a toy bar considering the hefty price. I bought the previous model (babysitter 1-2-3) for my brother when his son was born 4 years ago and I just borrowed the toy bar from it and clipped it on to my Balance bouncer.
* Update 4/2/11 - My baby is now 7 1/2 months old and sitting up by herself so I rarely use this anymore. Occasionally I'll put her in it in the kitchen but more often than not I'll just put her in her high chair. It was really useful until she was about 6 months old and sitting up. Maybe when she's walking she'll use it again without the crotch cover.
Customer Review: Cannot live without the BabySitter Balance! Summary: 5 Stars
If I could give you one item we have not been able to live without over the past 2 months of our son's life, this would be it! This one item has been our answer many times to a crying baby when nothing else works. He loves this chair! I cannot tell you how many times he has been crying after all his needs have been met and we sit him in the bouncer- POOF! Tears are gone and we have a happy baby again. Sometimes he likes us to bounce it, sometimes he is content just sitting in it. I was skeptical based on the price, but it is SO worth the money. It is light, it folds up nearly flat, travels easily and is a life saver when you have a baby with reflux! I haven't bought the attachable toy, but am thinking about it now that my son is almost 3 months and may actually appreciate it. I can't comment on how easy it is to clean because it is still clean, but it seems easy. I wish you could see my sleeping angel bouncing away as I type this review. I never put reviews up, but always read them before making big purchases. Buy this bouncer now! You will not be disappointed!
Customer Review: Baby loves this as much as a bouncy ball Summary: 5 Stars
My baby loves this baby bjorn babysitter. When he's really fussy, the only way I can calm him down is to bounce with him on a bouncy ball. However, that requires that I sit on the bouncy ball as well and in the middle of the night, that's a challenge! I hesitated to buy this initially because of the price and because there are SO many products out there that one can try for a fussy baby. However, this has been a godsend. I put my baby in it and bouncy him up/down, which really calms him. He's not at the point where he can actively bounce himself (like in the videos) yet, but when he moves, this does bounce a little, which helps in calming him down. This is particularly good in the middle of the night when I'm half asleep. Instead of getting up and bouncing him up/down in my arms, I place this seat in the middle of the bed while I'm lying beside him and bounce him. This is very well contructed and very stable. This would be good for a baby with reflux as well because it can seat a baby upright. I HIGHLY recommend this. It is worth every penny!
