My expericence with baby carriers started with my first son, now 4 years old. My mother bought me a Sugli carrier for me when I was pregnant, I only used it a couple of times because I found it cumbersome and uncomfortable. When my son was about 7 months old I stumbled on the Attachment parenting consept and was hooked. I next bought a Rebozo, thinking they will be great becasue of the versitlity. I did NOT have the patience to learn them however, so the search was back on.
I got pregnant with my youngest, also a boy, and a friend of mine let me borrow her Bjorn. It was fairly comfortable, when he was little, but by 2 months old he was to heavy for me to carry on just my shoulders. Problem, he was the biggest 'up' baby ever. I went searching online yet again for a carrier. I found the greatest one ever.
This wonderful prodcut is the New Generation Ergo Baby Carrier. It can be used from newborn all the way through Toddler hood, because it is a front carrier and a backpack in one terrific product. Plus it is about the same amount as the Bjorn.
For the same amount as this carrier (the bjorn) you can get a carrier that is much more versital, can be worn on your back or on your front, worn longer, much more comfort (all the wieght is on your hips), and the baby is carried in a much more Ergonomic way, that is proven in studys to be better for the development of hips and spine.

I got the origional blue baby bjorn for my first son, now 3. Someone gave me this BabyBjorn for my now 6 week old, and its great!
(1) I can easily adjust it to fit me, or my husband
(2) I can put baby in, and take him out without too much of a hassel, and wihtout waking him!
(3) I can hold my 19 lb niece in the BabyBjorn without breaking my back (atleast for 30 minutes), and its really fun for her, but once they get bigger, sell it and make a chunk of cash! and look for a backpack or something. But my oldest didnt like the backpack we tried in the store (at around 11 months), so it depends.. but I nearly got A YEAR of usage out of it!
(4) I love that the color is nuetral
(5) I use it for going food shopping alone (baby in the carrier, toddler in the cart) going on short dog walks, or if I am walking around the house with the baby.
(6) Its not only comfortable for me, but my son falls asleep in it instantaniously
(7) Its very easy to clean in the wash, or spot cleaned
(8) I can fit it in the HUGE compartment on my Quattro Tour, or just throw it in the back of my trunk
All in all I think for the use (if you start early) its great! If you do not want to waste money on it, than register for it, its great for parents and babies alike!

We have gotten soooo much mileage out of our Baby Bjorn. Our daughter never really liked being in her infant seat and pushed around in the stroller so this was a lifesaver (sanity-saver) for us. I used this carrier more than I used her stroller for the first 5 months.
At first, my daughter would get in, "head-butt" my chest and get more and more frustrated (as would I) but at around 3 months, she stopped doing this and would just fall asleep. She loves facing out and looking around and takes naps this way as well.
Both my husband and I have worn this, and been able to get it on - by ourselves. We've just put it on, leaving one side open, and then placed our daughter in and buckled it up. No problem. Only now, that our 5 month-old is 17 lbs, do I find it hard to wear for an extended amount of time.
I can throw this in the washer and then line-dry it and it comes up beautifully.
If the cost is keeping you away, just keep in mind that you can always resell it and get quite a bit back. Ours came used from a friend with two kids. It is still safe, secure and will be put away until we have our second baby.

We registered for this item and were delighted that a generous friend gave it to us for a shower gift. I'm not sure I would have bought it for myself. Our baby wanted to be held all the time the first 2 months. This allowed us to walk around the house and get a few things done (like eat!). At first his hands did not reach the arm holes and he just curled up on my chest. Now at 4 months he fills it out and we can even face him forward.
What I like about this carrier:
1) Very comfortable for both baby and parent.
2) Able to get baby in carrier with no help.
3) Color coded snapping hardware makes it easy to put on
4) Adjustable straps by arm holes and crotch allow snug fit as baby grows
5) In face forward you can flip down head piece and snap down
The only thing that could be improved about this carrier is the color. Baby spit up is very obvious on the dark blue.

I recieved this carrier as a baby gift and I was soo excited and happy that someone would be so generous to spend that ammount of money on me and my baby!! =) I put my daughter in it when she was a newborn, and immediatly she loved it!! She fell asleep the first time she was in it!! It has wonderful head support, and it is very comfortable for me and baby. It is so easy to put on as well!! You don't need any help at all!! Unlike other carriers that I have tried using to compare. I also recieved the snugli has a gift, but it was soo hard to put on and take baby out! It was a horrible experience!! I think nothing tops Baby Bjorn!!=) It is truely the best!! My daughter is 9 months old and I still used it!! She still loves being close to mommy, and I love her being close to me as well!=) I will be really sad when she won't be able to fit in it anymore, but I will save it for when I have another baby!!!=) Nothing tops this carrier!
