Baby Products Reviews of BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Original - Black, ClassicCustomer Review: wish i had bought this in the first place Summary: 5 Stars
i first bought an infantino carrier, which seemed to do the job. then one day i left that carrier in my husband's car, along with the stroller, and needed a new carrier pronto. all babies'r'us had in stock was this carrier, and though i had been eyeing it for a long time, i wasn't sure it would be worth the money. after i figured out how this thing worked (which did take a while, i should add), i took my daugher everywhere in it. this carrier is so sturdy (my daugher never swayed back and forth like she did with the other one, and i really didn't feel like i was carrying all that weight) and easy to put together with one hand. also, very easy to clean: i just threw it in the washing machine and let it hang-dry and it remained its shape and sturdiness. my daughter seemed to love this carrier as well, as she often fell asleep in it. unfortunately she outgrew this by 7 months; i'm sure she still could've fit in it, but it was just too uncomfortable for me to carry her in it because she got heavy. my only regret is that i didn't buy this one in the first place.
Customer Review: MUST HAVE! WORTH EVERY PENNY Summary: 5 Stars
I can't imagine life without this carrier! This made my life so much easier. The first few weeks of bringing baby home, I felt horrible not being "productive" because my infant wanted to be carried all the time. I wanted to care for my baby, but still fold laundry, wash dishes, etc. Once my baby hit the weight minimum for the carrier, I strapped him and I was mobile again! I'm able to get things done around the house and go out and take him shopping as well. I also feed him in this too and I found that he's less gassy because he's in an upright position so the milk goes straight down and at 2 months, he burps on his own. I used to spend almost an hour to get him to burp. Once he feeds, he falls right to sleep. My hour long nighttime feedings turn into 15-20 minutes. Need I say more, this is a great product. This is one thing you don't want to be cheap about. The price might scare you away, but it's worth every penny. In fact, my baby is sleeping in hi Bjorn as I type this. Great for people that want to still check emails =)
Customer Review: Great...if you have a strong core Summary: 3 Stars
This is the "gold standard", go-to, easy-to-put-on baby carrier. They have tried adding more back support to the "sport" version of this, but really it's this exact carrier with a bit more material on the back side. This carrier is great if you are the type of person who just wants to put something on fast and with very little knowledge of carriers. This is great for babies in the 1-3 month phase. But once your baby gets older (and heavier) moms whose stomach muscles are nearly gone from 9 months of not sucking in our stomachs, find it hard to carry babies in this carrier without their back completely aching after 1-2 blocks around the neighborhood. Forget going anywhere further. So in general, I think this is a great carrier for men with stronger cores and upper bodies, though I highly recommend allowing the newborns to have their hands inside the carrier to give them more stability and not be so jostled around, as well as always having them face in. And for the moms I recommend a sling type device (I like the Moby wrap).
Customer Review: Great Customer Service Summary: 5 Stars
I received this carrier as a gift in April 2005. My son was born in July 2005 and we have just begun using the carrier more frequently (now that he can face out, and now that we are venturing out to more "non-stroller friendly" events). My husband loves the "belly pack" as we call it -- we did not have to buy the extra long straps (my husband is 6 ft. and I'm 5'5"). I have only washed my carrier 3 times at the most and I just noticed the fabric fraying on the outside part that folds down. I contacted BabyBjorn (provided them with the UPC, serial #, etc.) and they are sending me a new outside part right away! I am very impressed with their customer service and would highly recommend the product. I also have the "ultimate baby wrap" in grey cotton and I really like it. It is great for traveling as it folds up compactly into it's own carry case -- about the size of half a loaf of bread -- and you can throw it over your shoulder. If BabyBjorn could create a special carry bag for the carrier that would be excellent!
Customer Review: Ouch my back and shoulders Summary: 1 Stars
We recieved the baby Bjorn as a gift and were excited to try it out. It wasn't so horrible when my son was first born, but as he gained weight both my partner and I found that the bjorn caused excruciating back pain really quickly. We both attribute this to the fact that it has NO lumbar support. I looked online and found out that Bjorn has recently made a carrier WITH a lumbar support. If you are going to buy a Bjorn I would highly recommend spending the extra money.
My other concern with the Bjorn is that my son seemed to be to big for it by the time he reached 16 pounds. Just too tall.
The thing I like about the Bjorn is that baby can face in or face out. This is great for when they are able to hold up their own head.
As for me, I found that something like the moby wrap, which is a long piece of fabric you wrap around yourself, gave me great lumbar support for a fraction of the price of a bjorn. The downside, my partner won't wear it because it is too girlie.
