Baby Products Reviews of BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Original - Black, ClassicCustomer Review: Not so great for Mom or Baby- Summary: 2 Stars
First let me say that I have large babies, so maybe those with smaller babies will like the Bjorn better than myself. I never even used a baby carrier with my first son, because all I really had heard of was the Bjorn, and I didn't want to spend so much money on a carrier that he would outgrow so soon. My ds was almost 11 lbs. at birth and 20 lbs. by 2 1/2 mos.
I purchased the Bjorn for my second ds who was 9 1/2 lbs. at birth and is now 4 mos. old and 18 lbs. It was okay when he was a newborn, and was a nice way to keep him close to me when out and about. However, I just used it today and within the first ten minutes my back and shoulders were already aching.
I have also researched and found that the Bjorn carrying style could be bad for baby's spine. When they are suspended and hanging by their crotch, all their weight is put on the base of their spine, which is not good since their tiny bones are weak and still developing.
I actually have done alot of research and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my New Generation Ergo Baby Carrier. If I had to do it all over again, I would skip the Bjorn and use a different style carrier. ie. Mei Tai, wrap, sling, etc.
Customer Review: Can't live without it, but wish I could Summary: 3 Stars
I've used this for both of my sons (2 years apart), and watched jealously as other moms used the new active Bjorn with lumbar support. My back was killing me from carrying them. My husband and I love taking walks after dinner and lived in an area that allowed us to run errands on foot. But the heavy price was the pain on our backs. After reading the reviews on the Active, it seems that the burden is still on the shoulders. That's one major complaint.
The second complaint is that all the weight for the baby is put on his crotch. So when he pees, sometimes there was so much pressure put on the diaper, the pee would spill out onto his outfit. Now that can't be good.
Third, when they get older and face outward, they can get really excited about the world around them. So your crotch gets kicked bigtime.
I have tried the slings and both sons didn't like it. Both didn't like the Bjorn the first couple of months, but once they were outward facing, they were much happier.
So I haven't found a good replacement, but have read good reviews for the Belle Baby Carrier. Now my sons are too old for the frontal carrier, but I would have tried the Belle Baby otherwise.
Customer Review: Worth every penny Summary: 5 Stars
Of all the baby products out there, this is the one I can't do without. (Well, maybe the carseat is #1.) I use this every time I go out, especially when I go grocery shopping. I honestly don't know how mothers buy groceries without a Bjorn.
Why is it so great? Baby is HAPPY in it, and a happy baby makes a happy mama. Baby can look out at the world, see everything, and meet new people. Baby is at eye level with adults and can be a witness to their conversations. My baby was clearly more comfortable in a Bjorn than anywhere else.
I was a little sore the first week I wore it, but then I was accustomed to the feel of it and it stopped bothering me. My baby is now 18 pounds and I am just starting to feel that baby is getting too big for me to carry in the Bjorn.
I highly recommend buying the bibs that attach to the front: BabyBj¿rn Bib for Baby Carrier. My baby started teething like a mad alligator just about the time she started facing forward in the Bjorn. The bibs are detachable and--most importantly--washable.
Customer Review: Well worth the money! Summary: 5 Stars
I was very sceptical about buying this item at first because of the price. I had used a much cheaper carrier 8 years ago with my first daughter and it just didn't work. I never felt like she was being supported correctly and so I ended up not using it and couldn't get things done that needed to be done because I had to hold her with my arms.
So, this time around, about 2 weeks after our 2nd daughter was born I realized that in order to fold clothes and vacuum when she was fussy and wanted to be held, I would have to get a carrier. I wanted one with a lot a support and that was both confortable for her and me as well. I broke down and got this one even though it seems a little pricy. Let me just say it is well worth the money spent!!!! She loves it and I can get so much more done and bond with her at the same time. She looks up at me and we have our little "conversations" while I am able to use my hands to get other things completed. It is also wonderful for grocery shopping and going to my older daughters events as well!!!!
To put it in a nutshell, it's a time saver and it also allows you to bond together!!
Customer Review: Great for small babies; versatile for parents of different sizes and heights. Summary: 5 Stars
We were initially sceptical about the necessity of a babybjorn carrier, given its price ($53 on Amazon, less on Albee closeout). Having tried on a few (Evenflo, Jeep...) at Babies R'us, we realised that Babybjorn gave better cushioned support for both baby and parent. The cushion is thick and firm, such that it holds itself up to give our infant better bottom, back and head support. The straps were comfortable for both my husband and I, and easily adjustable between parents of different heights. I am 5,4" and he is a whole head taller. I greatly appreciate the comfort of the straps. Although our baby is only about 13 lbs now, that weight does get to your back after carrying her for hours around Disneyworld. It has also been easy to put my infant in the carrier by myself since she was two months old. The best part about Babybjorn in comparison with other brands is its head support for sleeping infant babies, and that is why we bought it. It could be improved with a zippable mesh area, just so that improved air circulation could be an option in warmer weather. That's an idea the Jeep carrier has used in its product.
