Baby Products Reviews of BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Original - Black, ClassicCustomer Review: Awesome- 10 stars Summary: 5 Stars
I'm on my third child. I used this with my first (now 4) in Manhattan. I used it with my second (now 2) in Europe, and I'm now on my third (8 weeks) in suburbia. It's one of the best purchases I've ever made and after four years of use I really feel confident recommending it.
The quality is fantastic, it has faded a little from the sun, but overall works just as well as always. It is very easy to put on and adjust, even when I just started using it. The inside of the carrier has visual instructions sewn in so you never have to worry about not having the instructions around.
On a lifestyle basis, I originally thought I'd wear this only with one baby, but it's just as useful now that I have other children in tow. I put the two year old in a stroller, and keep the infant in the baby bjorn. When I go grocery shopping I often don't even put my infant in the cart, I just keep him in the baby bjorn. Not only is it convenient to have him in the carrier, he doesn't fuss at all because he's so close to me. I also use it when I take my kids to the playground, and when I feel like taking a stroll. It's a nice change of pace from pushing around a big stroller. I also used it a lot around the house with one of my fussy babies. He liked to be close to me all the time and I was able to do laundry and wash dishes while keeping him comforted.
I've never had any back pain with this other than some minor stiffness when I've kept my child in it for several hours.
I can't recommend this product enough. I would pay three times the price because it is that worth it.
Customer Review: Worth its weight in gold Summary: 5 Stars
My daughter was born at 25 weeks and has always wanted to be held, which I used to think was a little cumbersome until I started using my bjorn carrier with her. She also hates her carseat, so I can't just pop it out of the car and into the shopping cart to run errands, so I use this wherever we go and she loves it! I also have a 2 1/2 year old, so this keeps my hands free to keep up with him while we are in public. I can do chores around the house, go on walks, go grocery shopping or whatever else I want to do, and she is happy. She likes being forward and front facing, it just depends on if she wants to sleep or not which way we put her. I wish that I had spent the money on this with my first child, he would have loved it but I had a cheap Infantino one with him that all of us hated because it was so hard to get him in and out, we never used it. I use the Bjorn on almost a daily basis and we don't leave the house with out it since it is essential for when we are out and about. It also washes and dries nicely for the drool, sput ups, or whatever messes come its way. I would recommend spending the money on this one as it is worth every penny and then some. It supports my daughter well, it is comfortable with both of us. I bought one for our friends who do alot of international traveling with their baby, and they love it since it is easy to pack and they don't have to mess with a stroller and they can have their hands free. Definately one thing you can splurge on and thanks yourself for doing so afterward.
Customer Review: Horrible neck pain and headache after only 45 minutes of use! Summary: 1 Stars
When I received this carrier I was really excited! I had done my research and it had received such wonderful reviews! I have never written a review, but I felt I needed to warn others before spending such a ridiculous amount of money on a baby carrier that could cause you horrible pain.
I used my carrier for the first time with my son facing foward(he is 18 pounds). I won't even get into how difficult it was to get him in and out of this contraption--lets just say it wasn't easy, and it took two people to get him out! I had him in the carrier for only 45 minutes while at a neighbors house so he could watch the other children play. He was comfortable and having a good time and I was happy to be able to have my hands free.
I got home that night and had a horrible headache and horrible neck pain that lasted through the entire night onto the following evening that was caused by using this carrier. The only support it provides for holding your childs weight are straps that wrap around your shoulders (as opposed to one going across your back as well to help even out weight distribution),which causes the weight from your child to pull down your shoulders--at which point you end up using your neck to help support the weight instead of your back.
I am really disappointed in this item, not only because of the pain it has caused me due to its poor design, but also the difficulty of getting my child in and out of it.
Customer Review: don't waste your money on an impractical and unhealthy carrier like this Summary: 1 Stars
I have had four baby carriers. We received a Bjorn (actually 2!) at baby showers. Of the four, I found this one to be the least comfortable and most difficult to take on and off. Based on my experience I'd say that the Bjorn is good for one thing - going for a walk with a very small baby.
My daughter cried whenever I put her in the Bjorn (unlike the other baby carriers). At first I thought that was because she was picking up on *my* discomfort. However, it was when our pediatrician told me that the Bjorn is not healthy for babies (because it locks baby hips in an unhealthy position and also because the out-facing position prevents them from being able to turn away from difficult stimulus) that I realized it wasn't just me ... she really disliked it too!
There are other carriers that cost the same but are more durable, hold babies for longer (up to 40 lbs.), more comfortable for mom and dad, are more versatile (can be worn front, back, and side depending on how you place the straps), and sit the baby in an appropriate position for their physical (and emotional) development.
Check out the Ergocarrier. When I wear my baby in front in the Ergo I can nurse her in public (really w/o anybody being the wiser). When I wear her in back in the Ergo I can cook dinner safely, clean house, grocery shop, even pick things up off of the floor knowing that she is securely and safely in place. You can't do this with the Bjorn.
Customer Review: A Must Have! Summary: 5 Stars
There are many baby items out there on the market you can live without...this is not one of them. This little carrier has saved us more times than we can count. When our daughter was a newborn she would scream for 2 hrs straight every evening - that is until we learned that all we had to do was put her in her Bjorn and she'd settle right down. She's outgrown her "colic" now but we still use this all the time. Anytime she's fussy and just wants to be held while we need to be doing stuff around the house and yard, we just pop her in the Bjorn and everyone's happy. Great for shopping too. I highly recommend a Bjorn for all new parents. After we realized how much use were were getting out of it we wished we had spent the extra $$ and gotten the active model. The original model is comfortable but if you're wearing it for a long time and doing chores around the house, or when your baby starts getting bigger, it can get a little uncomfortable. Not enough to outweigh the benefits of this item, but enough to wish you had the next model up.
A lot of parents balk at the price of the Bjorn and decide to get one of the less expensive brands. DO NOT DO THIS. Everyone we know that has a Bjorn loves them and raves about them and everyone we know that has a different brand hates their carrier, never uses it and says it was a waste of money. Spend the extra $$ and go for the Bjorn, it is well worth it.
