Baby Products Reviews of BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Air - Gray/White, Mesh

Customer Review: Easy to take on and off....
Summary: 4 Stars

The BabyBjorn is definitely easy to take on and off, especially when baby is asleep (without waking baby up). We bought the Air model because we live in a warmer, more humid area (Houston, Texas). After further investigation, it appears that the Active model has lumbar support added in. That is our only complaint about the Air model, is the shoulder straps are difficult to adjust to various parent frame sizes. By "difficult to adjust", I mean - you have to take the carrier off, adjust the clip that fits between your shoulder blades, put the carrier back on, and check to see if the weight is distributed properly. If not, you have to take it back off, and try again. Not that big of a deal if only one person is planning on wearing it - once you get it set, it's done. But if you're frequently trading off "wearers" as we were (our baby had reflux), it quickly became a hassle - either you spent the time to adjust it every time, or you just wore it in an uncomfortable configuration.

The "built-in storage bag" is not very well thought out - while every part of the carrier does fit in the storage bag, the result is a blobby round bag the size of a small soccer ball...be better off just stuffing it in a gallon-size ziploc bag.

All in all, I would recommend it based on the ease of taking the baby out and putting the baby in. But for extended wear or multiple "wearers", I would probably investigate other options.

Customer Review: get a mei tai instead
Summary: 1 Stars

i hate the bbj for several reasons & i look forward to the day when scientific evidence of the damage it does will be enough to pull it off the market.
1) the seat is too narrow, putting all of baby's weight onto the crotch, contributing to spinal compression. it is especially damaging to boys as the weight rests entirely on his testicals.
2) the legs are left to dangle stright down (see above), which does not promote proper hip development. in indigenous cultures the baby is worn with his legs spread or froggy-style, with belly contact against the wearer's body. this position allows the hip balls to properly connect to the socket. this also allows for baby's weight to be distributed across the entire bottom & thighs. can you imagine straddling a bicycle seat all day & not being able to touch your feet to take the weight off your crotch?
3) facing out for extended periods is not healthy for little ones. the world is big & too much stimulus can quickly overwhelm a baby, who is unable to turn away & bury his face in your chest. it is also vital for a bby to be able to see your face & gauge your reactions to people & events. they learn how to interact with the world by watching you, but if they are thrust out in front of you like a ship's head, this is impossible.

invest in a mei tai or other similar carrier, NOT the bjorn.

Customer Review: Best piece of baby gear I own
Summary: 5 Stars

My child is only 12 pounds now at 4 months so I can't speak to the reviews that express back pain with the BB. I haven't experienced any of that, maybe because I started putting him in the BB every day right after he came home from the hospital so I have gotten gradually stronger as he's gotten gradually heavier. What I can say is that this BB has made my life so much easier. We have 2 dogs and it is difficult to walk them with a stroller (they keep getting run over or tangled). So I put my baby in the BB and can walk the dogs with no problem, even having a hand free. Plus it is a good workout for my core and quads carrying that extra weight on our walks and it forces me to maintain my posture when picking up the dogs' business. I also use it at the grocery store so that his car seat doesn't take up room in the cart. My husband likes wearing it too but most importantly, the baby LOVES to be in the BB, either asleep or awake. As far as keeping cool in it versus the other BB, I would say to choose this one. My baby is like a radiator and you can always put more layers on the baby to keep him warm as necessary, but when it's hot out, you want this breathable fabric instead of the hotter one. I highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: the best carrier for infants
Summary: 4 Stars

Babybjorn lives up to its name. This carrier is very baby-friendly and my 5 week-old infant sleeps soundly in it every time. The head gear helps her neck to be stable during her crankiest moods and my mother feels proud to flash this nicely designed carrier when we are at a mall. It took us a minute to figure out how to put the carrier on but after a moment, it's a cinch. It is well-constructed and the details are good. The only puzzling parts are how to put this whole package back into the little net that they provide for storage (we simply gave up and decided to store it in a huge babybag) And the only other drawback I foresee is that my infant will probably grow out of this after five or six more months (she only weight 9 pounds now). My nephew who was a huge baby grew out of this in his sixth month (at 22 pounds). I wonder if there is a way to make the carrier last a little longer by providing extra inserts for our ever-expanding babies. It's a pricy investment to make for only a five or six months use. Otherwise this is the purchase for you if you want a sturdy, well-designed carrier. I'm not sure how breathable this new carrier air is but it at least looks cooler than my nephew's original bjorn carrier.

Customer Review: Now we can enjoy of Florida summer :)
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy to put on for tired moms and dads. The idea about AIR fabric is excellent for our Florida climate! Love color's that matches to my "sport" style clothes. Everyone in my family and friends understand that it is very hard to satisfy my quality demands for gifts for my new baby girl. So I told to everyone for my baby shower to buy diapers NB and #1 size. I know I'll use them for sure :) When we went with my husband to purchase a double stroller for our two children than we found out what our son hits his head on baby's car seat at any double stroller. Only option I had - is to carry a new baby with me. I do enjoy it. It's bringing us closer to each other. I'm breastfeeding in it also! A little later we will move to a double stroller without any baby car seat. BabyBjorn Air is my third baby carrier. Two previous I throw away - my back was in big pain. I'm 5'10" skinny with scoliosis. I've decided to invest more money for comfort baby carrier but not to pay big $ to chiropractors :) My new baby girl looks so peaceful in it.
