Baby Products Reviews of BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Active, Black/RedCustomer Review: A must for my back Summary: 3 Stars
I tried many different slings which are much easier than this for nursing, but after my son was about 2 months old he would no longer tolerate a sling. I find this very difficult to Breast Feed in unless you drop the height way too low and feed the baby sitting up (good for ear infections). Despite that fact this has been a life saver on family outings. At 4 months old I carried my son in this for the better part of 4 full days at Walt Disney World and on many other family outings. He sleeps great in it facing me and I can put him in it asleep and take him out w/o waking him. It was a bit too hot for him in humid weather. If I didn't own this already I might consider the Synergy but that price tag is still too steep. I bought the cover for it for cooler weather and love it. It is a great wind breaker, and keeps me from loosing his socks. When not in use I wrap the carrier in the cover for neater storage. My son is current 16 pds, I am 5'2" and I have no trouble carrying him in this for 4+ hrs at a time. My husband has a beer belly and he can not strap this over his gut.
Customer Review: Much better than the original! Summary: 5 Stars
I owned the original Baby Bjorn with my first son and liked that I had my hands free, but didn't like the unbearable shoulder pain after walking around! For my second son, I registered for the Active Carrier hoping this would distribute his weight more evenly and leave me pain free...which it has. It's a bit more cumbersome to put on because you have an extra strap where the lumbar support is, but it's worth it. My youngest falls asleep almost instantly when I put him in his Bjorn. I can push my older son in his stroller at the mall so that I don't have to lug around the heavy double stroller. I can take our oldest to the park and have my hands free to give him a little push on the swing while his baby brother is looking on from his carrier. I had kept the original Bjorn "just in case" but when I tried to use the original Baby Bjorn to take a quick stroll around the block after leaving the Active Carrier in my husband's car, I had to remove it after 2 minutes because my shoulders hurt so bad! Needless to say, I got rid of the original Bjorn not too long after that incident.
Customer Review: Can't live without this product! Summary: 5 Stars
We had the original Baby Bjorn with extra long straps for our daughter and stopped using it when she was 4 months old because at 18 pounds she was too heavy for me to carry. We got this when our son was born hoping that we would be able to use it longer. He is now 6 months old and 20 pounds and I can still carry him in it easily.
I have found this one to be much better than the original. While we had to have the extra long straps for the original, we don't for this one and it fits fine. The lumbar support really works and my baby isn't supported by my shoulders like the original, so I don't get sore from carrying him. I don't find that I have to pull the lumbar support straps too tightly for it to work. We do have problems with the front flap popping up when he faces forward, but this has never bothered him. Once you get used to how it works it is very easy to put on and take off.
I have a baby who always wants to be held so I use this product almost daily. I think it is by far the best investment we could have made as far as "gear" goes.
Customer Review: AWESOME! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review because I love a product SO much... and I want other parents to gain as much from it as I have.
I own 5 different carriers, from the trendy Maya Wrap to one of the most expensive Kelty carriers BUT by far this is the MOST comfortable carrier ever. We (well, the HUSBAND) accidentally left our stroller behind for a 2-week trip to Europe and this was the only thing we had to carry our 3-month old in (and still run after the 19-month old, and drag luggage). It was fantastic. The only time, I find, that I get back ache is IF I don't tighten the lumbar support tightly. Everything needs to be on the correct setting for my body size for it to work optimally. The secret, like carrying a backpack for hiking a mountain, is to tighten the lumbar so that your hips take the pressure NOT your shoulders. I've nursed in this carrier in a line at Disney World (discreetly, of course) and I never get hot in it like with my other carriers. I'm now using this carrier for my 3rd baby and still LOVING it.
Customer Review: Great support! Hiked for hours. Summary: 5 Stars
The Active lives up to the hype!! I bought mine 2nd hand and it is in amazing condition. We just got back from the Alps where we hiked hours each day. Nothing too technical but some uphill ascending was involved. The carrier easily adjusted to me and my husband. The lumbar support is great. I was only tired from having extra weight...! The key to this carrier and the Original Bjorn is to adjust the straps properly and have the lumbar support (or cross for the original) in the correct place. I see so many people with them not adjusted properly so am not surprised by all the complaints. My husband first put it on not correctly and complained. I fixed it for him and now he loves it.
I have a 10 yr old and a 4 month old. I had the original Bjorn with my 10 yr old and used it for nearly a year and loved it. That being said, the original is defintely good for getting from point A to point B but the active is fine for long walks and hikes. Note that I will use a proper backpack for the real hikes :)
