Baby Products Reviews of Avent Isis VIA Breast Pump KitCustomer Review: Excellent pump and excellent value Summary: 4 Stars
This is probably the best manual pump you can buy. It comes with extra parts (which is really handy, because one of the pieces required is very small) and may seem difficult to assemble, but once you get the hang of it, it's a snap. I had a bit of trouble putting the pump together, and let me tell you, if it's not together correctly, you will have NO suction! So read your instructions carefully, although I managed to get it right after about 5 or 10 minutes without directions. It is very gentle on the breast, and very effective, with no annoying motor noise. Also comes with handy little "coaster" stands, to use for the pump or any of the bottles. And don't lose your spare pump parts! So awesome of Avent to include them, so you don't have to contact them should you lose a piece.
Customer Review: Works well for the price but time consuming Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this pump first. (I also bought the Medela Pump in Style Advanced). It is easy to use but it took me about 20 to 25 minutes to pump a 4 oz bottle and of course that is one breast at a time. The handle makes a rather loud creaking sound which can be lessened if the diaphragm part is wet during assembly. If you are going to use it more than once a day, it is time consuming to run the dishwasher or boil the parts. I recommend a sterilizer or Medela's sterilizing bags.
The VIA system works well but the package recommends only 3 uses per container before disposing. That felt too cheap for the price. Also, if you are going to freeze breastmilk, the containers can take up a lot of space in a standard refrigerator freezer. I recommend the breastmilk bags.
Customer Review: If i could give ZERO stars... I would! Summary: 1 Stars
I hated this pump! every time i tried to pump using this pump i couldnt even get a single drop! I could be leaking from both breasts...put this on my breast and try to pump...nothing! it was very very frustrating..a complete waste of $50. The other reviewers seem to have better luck than me, because i felt this was a waste. I ended up using the medela pump in style double electric pump, which was extremely efficent, although i did have very sore nipples from it! I would never recommend this product to anyone. and the disposable bottles were a pain to use because the lids were difficult to screw on correctly because the plastic was more flimsy than a regular bottle. obviously they are disposable and that is the reason, but doesnt make it any easier to use!
Customer Review: Not great out of the box...but good overall Summary: 4 Stars
I had a horrible time at first trying to get any milk out with this pump. A friend recomended it, saying it worked great for her and since she is a lactation consultant I figured I could trust her advice. Well, after pumping for 15 minutes without even a drop of milk, I gave up thinking I was out $50. Then I called her and she recommended I take the "letdown shield" off (it comes assembled with it on.) After I did what she suggested, it was a totally different machine! Wow, I got 4 ounces in 5 minutes! I typically have a fast letdown, so this is what I normaly get with my medela. So I really love it now! If you already have one, and haven't had any luck with it, try taking off that shield. I had no idea it would make that big of a difference, but it did. :)
Customer Review: Great Little Pump! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this breast pump and here are the reasons why:
1. It was inexpensive compared to some of the other pumps out there.
2. It is fast. I can express 4-6 ounces from each side in about 10-12 minutes total.
3. It is quiet and can be used anywhere.
4. Milk can be expressed right into the VIA storage containers and stuck in the fridge or freezer. The containers are pretty sturdy for disposables and stack nicely.
5. This pump has not made me sore.
When assembling this pump IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE WHITE STAR PIECE IS IN CORRECTLY. If this piece is not in right the pump won't have any suction! It says it right in the manual but somehow I missed it the first time around and couldn't get any milk out.
