Baby Products Reviews of Avent Isis VIA Breast Pump KitCustomer Review: WONDERFUL...Can't tell you how great. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great pump. It gives me no problems at all. I never got a breastpump with my first daughter...she only had me! LOL Well, this time around I decided it would be a good idea so I could go exercise at the gym or not alarm the old ladies at church. I have tried an electric one and a manual one made by Evenflo and both were painful and hardly expressed any milk. The first time I used this, I immediatly had over 3 oz. My daughter was only 2 months old when I purchased (I got a NIB on eBAY) it. The Via is nice because of the option of reusing or throwing away. I love the bottle nipples...they are just like, well, nipples. LOL I only use this about once a week, but so far no problems. I would think with the easiness of it, that it would be great for working moms. Cleaning is a cinch also. Visit the Avent website because they have options to receive brochures on the Avent product lines, etc. and you also receive samples. I got a whole VIA kit for free!
Customer Review: hated it at first but now LOVE it Summary: 5 Stars
When i went to purchase my pump, i went in the store intending to buy an electric pump. The sales associate convinced my to purchase this manual one instead saying it worked just as good if not better. She was SO right! i tryed it a few times and had a hard time, i got frustrated and went out and spent $170 on a double electric one(the 'Elan' one). Well now that i have that one and it didn't work as well as i had hoped, i went back and tryed this manual one from isis again. I guess i wasn't doing it right at first or maybe thought the harder the suction the more milk you will get and faster..which is apparently NOT how breast work. Now that i understand better how to do it, I can usually get about 3oz out in about 10 minutes (my baby is still a newborn). It's very easy to clean and assemble(read the instructions first!) My only complaint is the disposable cups, buy the pump with the bottles instead. I would reccomend this pump to everyone.
Customer Review: Easiest and fastest way to express lots of milk. Summary: 5 Stars
I decided the moment I got pregnant that I would breastfeed our child, so we bought the Medela Pump In Style. After trying fairly unsuccessfully to pump milk I went looking for advice from BTDT moms. All recommended the Isis. The first time I used it I got about 4 ounces of milk and my daughter was only 6 weeks old. I found that with the Isis I could determine the pressure and frequency of the suction that best suited the flow of my milk. With the automatic pump, the suction cycle ended just as the milk was starting to flow. Not only could I get a lot of milk, but it flowed so quickly that it took less than half the time of the electric pump (and a very high quality pump at that!) I highly recommend the Isis... I will admit that cleaning it isn't the most fun and that it can be frustrating that you MUST have the petal liner on the pump securely fastened in order to get suction, but overall this pump is AWESOME.
Customer Review: good little pump Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this pump because my electric (a hand me down) works sporadically and I didn't want to spend $300 for a new one.
I was leery when I read some reviews, especially the one saying it didn't work if you're larger than an A engorged. I was a 36 DD/DDD before I my pregnancy so you have an idea of where I am breastfeeding. This little pump works GREAT.
A few cons:
-It does squeak. I use it straight out of the sterilizer and it's better.
-It does leak by the cup...but so did the electric. I just hold a paper towel underneath (I have to support anyway).
I had one user error too. There's a piece a little smaller than a dime with a star (*)... if you don't put it in right (flat side to the bottle) you will be there forever and not get more then a few drops. It happened twice before I realized my mistake.
Customer Review: Pump is great-Via is okay Summary: 3 Stars
This pump is great. Pumping is a bit of an art and can be difficult at first but after the 3rd try this was easy. I love this pump and I get as much milk in the same amount of time as my friends who use electric expensive pumps (plus this isn't noisy). The via bases are not that great. This kit comes with two blue adapters and that's just not enough in my opinion. You get one dirty when you pump then have to use the other to put the nipple on the bottle. Then you have to wash them in order to pump again. It's much simpler to just use the Avent 8 oz bottle with the storage disks. Also it says you can use them up to 3 times. Though I've used mine plenty more than that (mostly for storage of milk-they do stack nicely and can be put in the freezer). So get this pump if you plan to pump once or twice a day at most but just get the regular bottles and sealing disks.
