Baby Products Reviews of Avent Isis VIA Breast Pump KitCustomer Review: Do not waste your money Summary: 1 Stars
I got this pump as a shower gift and thought it was going to be great. I thought that since I was breastfeeding I was not going to pump much and only need a manual. This pump DOES NOT work and can actually be quite painful. I called customer service 3 times to try to figure out how I could get suction. The pump does not work by using suction and I could not get any results each time I tried, just red and sore. I tried all the tricks they told me to no avail. It was frustrating. I eventually went out and bought the Evenflo pump which you can plug in and not have to hand pump, so great! I called customer service again to see if I could get money back or some compensation. They DO NOT do this!! The lady only kept repeating the same thing over and over...we only guarantee that you will end up with a working pump (which means that if you send in the pump and it works with their testing, they just send it back and you are left with a pump that still doesn't work and out the money you had to spend on another one). Two of my friends also said that they had the same problem with the pump, things they didn't tell me before I registered:)
Please don't waste your money or time. Also even if you think you only need a manual, it still is a lot of work each time you want to pump. The Evenflo was comparable in price and I can plug in and work on other things as I pump.
Customer Review: Such a waste of money!! Summary: 1 Stars
I am extremely disappointed with this pump. I mainly breastfeed my son, but I do need to pump while I'm at work (2 days a week) and sometimes when I'm at home. I thought that this manual pump would be just fine for that. I was WRONG! First of all, I read the directions very carefully (I'm a "follow the directions exactly step-by-step" kind of girl). I couldn't seem to get any suction with this thing (or if I did, it would only last for a second or two). I'm not sure where the problem was coming from (I think a bad seal with the milk collection container). I couldn't get the collection container/cup to stay in place. It was a joke. I think that in the 3-4 weeks that I tried to use this product, I MAY have pumped 3 ounces. I fought and fought with this thing. I'm not even going to go into the nightmare of trying to clean this thing and all its parts!! I tossed the pump in the garbage and went straight for the big guns! I'm renting a symphony medala from the hospital where I work. I will usually get at least 8 ounces each time I pump with the Symphony. I talked with some other new mommies about this product, and they all agreed. Nobody seemed to care for it. A friend of mine bought the Pump In Style and really likes it (after trying...and hating...this Avent pump). Hope this helps.
Customer Review: Love this pump Summary: 5 Stars
I chose this pump because I was not sure how long I was going to breastfeed and could not justify the expense of the electric pumps, if I only ended up using it for a few weeks. I have never used any other pump, so I cannot compare it. Being brand new at the mommy thing and breastfeeding, I had a little trouble the very first time I used it getting it started. I have used it several dozen times in my first three weeks of breast feeding and now have it down to a science. I can express ALOT of milk in a very short period of time and it does not hurt at all. SInce this pump has worked so well for me I am considering breastfeeding longer than I had originally planned. Best of all the whole AVENT line is interchangeable. I can pump into VIA containers for the freezer or bottles for the fridge and our baby can be fed from either of the containers too! THe nipples work great and we have had no trouble with our baby going back and forth between breast and bottle. Our baby did struggle a little bit with the stage one nipples, seemed like it wore him out to eat since very little comes from the nipple, so we switched to the stage 2 nipples a little early and everything has been just fine since. I would highly recommend the AVENT line, it has worked great for this first time mom!!
Customer Review: Great pump Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this pump before our son was born. We weren't exactly sure how I would feel about breast feeding and didn't want to spend a lot of money on a pump and not use it. This came in handy since the day after we came home from the hospital I started pumping due to the massive headaches I had. I was not able to sit up or stand for any period of time without crying or getting so dizzy I would fall over. I would pump the milk and my husband would feed our son as well as take care of our 3 year old. (I did not breast feed our first son at all) I used the isis breast pump for about 3 weeks until we decided to go ahead and invest in an electric pump. We bought the Lansinoh breast pump (I LOVE IT!!!! I GIVE IT 10 STARS) and will keep the manual pump in case something should happen. This is a great pump and inexpensive if you aren't sure what you really want to do. It just takes a long time to pump whereas I can get twice the amount in 5 minutes with my electric pump.
Customer Review: great pump once you get used to it! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this as a shower gift. It has been really helpful and extremely efficient. At first breast feeding and pumping was very painful. So I rented the Medula from the hospital for the first month. The Medula (a $1,000 unit) is a great dual pump system that works more gently than my newborn or the Avent. It was nice to use the dual pump as I got used to breastfeeding. But once I got used to it, I didn't use the Medula at all and was using the Avent. The dual pump had A LOT of parts to clean (2 pumps) and was a bit tricky to manuveur holding 2 pumps at the same time. The Avent was very efficient in expressing milk, easily extracting 5oz. from a single breast in under 10 minutes. It is very important to have the pump assembled correctly (my husband still puts the valve plug in backwards no matter howmany times I show him) So it's easy to see why some women may have had problems. But once the unit is assembled properly, this pump works FANTASTICALLY!!
