Baby Products Reviews of Avent Isis Manual Breast PumpCustomer Review: Life-Saver Summary: 5 Stars
This product has made my life so much better. I have recently returned to work and wanted to make sure that I could still feed my baby 100% breast milk. (She's only 3mo old.) I had been trying to use a double electric pump for a few weeks before my return and really wasn't have much luck with it. Sometimes I'd get 1T, other times I'd get 2oz. And, this is after 45min pumping sessions, lots of massage, listening to recordings of my crying baby, etc, etc.
I was in pain and I was very frustrated.
I had read about the massage petals of the Avent and thought it'd be worth a try. Their advertising is spot on, I'm able to pump a full feeding for my baby in 20 mins. With each pumping session, I see between 3-5oz. Wow. My baby won't starve now. It's also very comfortable, I tried so many sizes of shields before, but the petal massager is perfect.
Pros:
1. Petal massager is comfortable
2. Produces a fast let down
3. Easy to control the suction/cycle speed
4. Small/compact -- easy to carry around & you're not tethered to one spot in your home.
5. No electricity required
6. Low price
7. Quiet compared to electric pumps
8. Less equipment than an electric pump
9. Actually WORKS!!!
Cons:
1. One side at a time
2. I use both hands while I pump
3. Squeaks loud
Here's some feedback for the product design though:
1. Some milk gets wasted because of the large space before the valve. I usually swish it around to make sure that all the milk drains into the bottle.
2. There is some squeaking that occurs with each pump. I think this is because the handle rubs against the plastic cap.
Customer Review: A Awesome Pump Summary: 5 Stars
I just had my baby 6 weeks ago and I wanted something I could use for occasional pumping. I was told that the Meleda electric pump was awesome so I purchased it. I tried to pump for over a hour and didn't get one drop out of it. The suction was horrible on it and did nothing for me. I asked the general manager of Babies R Us if I could return it if I had no luck, espically where it was $80. They told me they aren't suppose to return them once opened but they would go ahead and return it for me if it didn't work. After trying it and no luck, I returned it and purchased this pump. Can I say, I LOVE IT! I have had great results and it's so easy to use, and QUIET!! The Meleda electric pump was so loud it sounded like a razor going off! I'm not sure how much milk is normal to get out since everyone is different but on average I am able to get about 4 ozs out in about 15 minutes. I don't think I am a milking machine but I get enough out for my baby. I have noticed that since pumping, my milk has let down alot more and I am able to actually feel it let down now. The only 3 things that I don't care for is 1)The cushion around the funnel for the "Let down" effect. It seems to work best for me with out it on. 2) Your milk tends to drip out of the funnel and onto your clothes on occasion. 3)The suction comes loose sometimes and you have to start all over again. Overall, great pump and I have had great results. If you are thinking of purchasing a pump for occasional use, this is the pump. I would defenitly ask the store manager though before purchasing it, if it doesn't work, can it be replaced? If they say yes and they will let you return it, like they did me, then you know you aren't out the money if it doesn't work.
Customer Review: A great little pump Summary: 4 Stars
If you are planning on getting this pump - i recommend getting the Advent Breastfeeding Essentials. It's such a money saver.
ISIS PUMP - is perfect if your planning on pumping ocassionally (about once a day). Your not going to get as much milk out with a manual as you would with an electric - that is a given. I am able to pump out 4 ounces from each side in the morning. Which I would save for either my husband or mom to feed her.
PROS: For me it was simple to use & it has great suction. You don't have to worry about painful suction since you can control the strength.
CONS: There really aren't any. It wasn't bad to use even though I had pain in both wrist(it was hard for me to push myself up or carry the baby at times-i got them injected since then). Pumping in general is time consuming. I wish the electric Isis was out when I had my daughter it would have saved a little more time.
***Breastfeeding was a challenge for me it took me a week to learn proper technique and to recover from the sore nipples. They became sore & cracked after 1 week being at home. I pumped almost exclusively with the Isis(thank God I had it) for about 2 days in order to heal. I almost freaked out because the lactation nurses told me that a baby at the breast will stimulate the breast BEST. Also since we hadn't establish breastfeeding there is a risk of nipple confusion. So I did some research and found AVENT Nipple Protectors(they are paper-thin, soft, odourless, taste-free silicone and protect sore or cracked nipples during breastfeeding)& I was able to continue breastfeeding with no problems ever since. These are a life saver.
I hope this was helpful.
Customer Review: This pump and working Summary: 5 Stars
I bought an ameda purely your fully electric pump with my first baby. I really liked that pump and it cost less than the medula pump in style. Later I got an isis. I actually began to prefer the isis - first as home and then at work too. Now I was only pumping once during my workday when I got the isis - but I can say that by using the isis (single pumping) I got more milk than when I was using the ameda (double pumping). Double pumping is supposed to make you give more milk so that amazed me. I have heard of some women using two isis pumps at the same time to double pump although I did not try that & it might be hard to support the breasts and do that. I found that with the isis I could hold the suction a little longer when the milk was really squirting out and get tons of milk that way with out getting sore. I felt a lot like what my baby did when she was nursing (and I feel she was an expert of getting lots of milk). With an electric pump you cannot control and vary the suction in this way. I liked both the ameda purely yours and the isis pump and would recommend both however. My advice is to get the isis and try it. For a few days pump just like you will be doing at work and see if the isis meets your time requirements. If it does great! If it doesn't then go for the purely yours or another fully electric or hospital grade pump to meet your needs. You do NOT have to have the pump you will use at work the day your baby it born. You will know much more after a few weeks. Just make sure you have at least this isis manual pump before baby comes. Above all, you will be able to pump at work. Keep a positive attitude yourself - and be positive with your co-workers and boss.
Customer Review: Worst Experience Ever. Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this pump before I had my daughter after reading all the fantastic reviews that it got. After reading all kinds of information about breast feeding it sounded simple and natural and something every woman could do. Well soon after my daughter was born I realized this would not be the case for me. It took quite a long time for my milk to come in (about 5 days) and even then feedings took forever, sometimes up to 2 hours and then I still needed to give her a bottle. I really did not know what the problem was, if it was me, or a feeding problem with her? She was gaining weight, but I needed to sleep sometime and do other things besides feed this baby. I soon got out my Advent breast pump figuring that I need to know how much milk she was actually getting and to start feeding with a bottle. I soon found this pump very frustrating. I rarely got good suction and it leaked where the pump meets the neck of the bottle. Also milk got trapped under the cushion thing. I would spend about an hour pumping to maybe get a few ounces. Also like other reviewers I had problems with the valve falling out and having to take the thing apart over and over to fix it. I tried boiling the pump like the instructions said and nothing improved. Once every blue moon I would get 6 ounces out, but this was very seldom. Needless to say my milk dreid up in about 10 weeks. If you know you are planning on having more than one child, please save yourself from tears and frustration and invest in a good electric pump. I am now pregnant with my second and last child and plan on renting a good pump from the hospital and hope to have a much better experience this time around.
