Avent ISIS Breast Pump with Disposable Nurser by Avent
Product SummaryManufacturer: Avent
Description of Avent ISIS Breast Pump with Disposable NurserFor breastfeeding moms on the go, the Avent Isis disposable breast pump is the perfect solution. This manual pump provides a comfortable and efficient way to pump without the need for a larger, battery-run breast pump. The disposable silicone "let-down" cushion has five petal-shaped massagers that flex in and out to imitate your baby's suckling. It's comfortable because you control the speed and pressure. The system comes with a travel cover, 20 bottle liners and labels, and 10 clips so you'll have everything for storing milk when you're out and about. It also has a newborn nipple so you can convert the pump to a bottle for feeding your baby. This pump is a great alternative to electric models. --Andrea Linsky
Baby Products Reviews of Avent ISIS Breast Pump with Disposable NurserCustomer Review: excellent pump, excellent customer service Summary: 5 Stars
I actually began using this pump before my son was born because my membranes ruptured prematurely and in a last ditch effort to avoid medical induction I tried nipple stimulation using this pump to get my labor going. The design with the petals is supposed to be a close mimick to a baby suckling so it seemed like a good idea. My labor started within 4 hours! It may be a coincidence but it lasted less than 4 hours start to finish as well (and this was my first baby). Of course, always talk to your doctor before trying any induction method (I did), I am not a health professional. I have used this pump exclusively since my son was born and he is seven months old now. I am a stay-at-home mom that pumps only for an occasional feeding, to stock the freezer for daytrips away from baby, and for milk for baby cereal (we have food allergy problems). So, I use it at least once a day, everyday, but not for large quantities of milk. I love the pump. I have always found it comfortable to use, it is small and travels well, and has suited my every need as a breastfeeding mother thus far. Last month I managed to crack one of the plastic pieces because I was spacey and turned the pieces the wrong way when I dissembled to pump for cleaning. I called Isis Customer Service and they mailed a replacement part for free. I did not have to have my original receipt or tell them a date of purchase or anything. I was not expecting it to be so easy and was extremely grateful. I missed my pump immensely in the only 2 days it was out of service. The only thing that worries me a bit about this disposable pump, is that I'm not sure Avent's bags are up to snuff for freezing milk. You definitely need to double bag if you are going to freeze your milk in the bags. I have had some single bags break before I realized this and the instructions with the pump actually specifically say that the plastic is not freezer grade and should be double bagged (boy did I feel stupid). From what I understand the Medela bags are much better for freezing (i do not know this from personal experience, but from word of mouth), but are not a good fit to use with this pump. I'm sure an organization like La Leche League could answer that question for sure.
