Baby Products Reviews of Arm's Reach Mini Co-Sleeper Bassinet - NaturalCustomer Review: Great idea...needs a little tinkering. Summary: 4 Stars
I love this bassinet and so does my baby. It keeps babies handy so you can reach them if they fuss in the night and creates more of a family bond than having them down the hall in their own dark, cold, painfully lonely little rooms...not that I'm biased or anything.
A few notes:
1. I had a C-section, and this worked just fine as long as I didn't lunge to the side to pick up the baby. It was painful lifting that much weight, but it would have been painful in any other bassinet or crib, too.
2. I used this with the Angelcare Bebesounds monitor, and had a couple of false alarms the first night because the canvas sling that holds the mattress upright would sag and set the alarm off. A square of common CDX plywood under the monitor sensor did the trick. You do have to thread the wire through the canvas very carefully, through - otherwise the baby will play with it, which is dangerous.
3. The mattress is pretty darned firm. Since I was obsessive about back-sleeping, my baby developed a bad case of flat-head which I'm sure would have been less prominent had the mattress been a little softer. That said, it'd definitely NOT recommended for infants to sleep on super-soft surfaces, so it's just something you can deal with by always keeping your baby upright or on a side or tummy during the day.
4. A large baby would outgrow the Mini Co-sleeper fairly quickly, but it's sure a handy product and well worth the money. We've used ours for almost 5 months.
Customer Review: A SPACESAVER AND NICE DESIGN, BUT EASILY OUTGROWN BY BABY Summary: 3 Stars
I ordered this product from Amazon two months before I gave birth. Bought it because a friend of mine had it, and at the moment, I found it cute. It was smaller than the usual bulky wooden cribs which my hubby and I don't really like. When we received the product we assembled it right away. It was pretty easy to assemble. We used the under part of the crib as a compartment for our baby's clothes. The side pockets were pretty convenient for diaper storage. It was perfect at first... but now that my baby hit the three month mark. We are realizing that it is not really that good of a buy. Why? Because our three month old nearly fills up the crib from end to end. By the time she reaches 6 months, I am sure she won't fit in it anymore. I kinda wish I bought the bigger version of the Armsreach Co-Sleeper. Another thing I didn't like about this product was the disassembling part. We couldn't put it back to its travel size because the button you have to click to make it compact was too hard. Too hard for even my hubby. And so whenever we take it to grandmas house or when we travel, we carry the whole thing! Definitely not convenient.
If you are thinking of buying this product, just go for the regular sized Armsreach Cosleeper. At least with that, you get the same Cosleeper design, but bigger... Or just buy those Graco Pack n' Play ones.
Hope this review was helpful!
Customer Review: Great Idea Summary: 5 Stars
I bought two of these for my twins and I have to say it was so nice to have. I used this in the living room and also along side my bed and it has so many nice features. First of all, it is so sturdy and accommodates quite a bit of weight (22 pounds I think) and it is quite large so you can actually get alot of use out of it. I packed mine away at about 7 months when babies were sleeping longer and in their cribs and starting to pull themselves up. I had a hard time putting my tiny babies in their cribs but sharing my bed with them was difficult and not too safe so this worked wonderfully to keep baby near while still in their own safe sleeping space. There are some drawbacks though such as cleaning is difficult but armsreach said to use rubbing alcohol to clean with a cloth. Also the sheets are pricey but I found that larger standard bassinet sheets worked in a pinch. The co-sleeper is kinda hard to collapse but just be patient and you'll get it. I did not breast feed but I can see how this would be wonderful for that and several little pockets along the side make it easy to store diapers, wipes and birp cloths plus there is storage below for blankets etc. Overall you will get quite a bit of use out of this bassinet and if you are breast feeding it will be wonderful but still nice even for bottle babies.
Customer Review: Co-sleeper invaluable for first-time parents! Summary: 5 Stars
Our son is four months old he has slept in the co-sleeper every night since he was born. I know that soon he'll outgrow it and that he'll have to go into his own room across the hall in his crib but I'm going to keep him near us as long as we can, and the Arms Reach mini co-sleeper enables this. As a first-time mom I had all of the classic night time worries, but the co-sleeper has made our nights so much easier. To be able to roll over and keep your face close to his, your hand on his back, all the while him being in his own bed and you in yours, is invaluable. Also, the co-sleeper lets you easily pull him into bed with you for feeding and then gently transfer him back to bed with little disruption. Again, as first-time parents, we weren't sure what the 'right' thing to do was regarding night time, but I can now vouch for the co-sleeper that it gives you the best of both worlds - being able to sleep without baby, yet having him close enough that your worries are allayed and you can hear and respond to the slightest noise or distress. Sure, you may have to pay attention to assembly and straps and such, and yes it does make climbing in and out of that side of the bed slightly more cumbersome, but it's a small price to pay for its functionality and practicality. We love our mini co-sleeper!
Customer Review: great idea Summary: 5 Stars
We all really like this mini co-sleeper. We've been using it at night and for naps for 3 months now and have had no problems. I had a C-section, but my hubby slept next to baby during those sore weeks and handed her to me for nursing. Now I sleep next to her and it is such a handy arrangement.
The co-sleeper attaches to the bed with straps that fit under the mattress. We had to buy a set of bed height extenders at Bed,Bath, and Beyond for about $15 and they work great - very sturdy. We decided on those versus the extenders that are made to go with the co-sleeper based on poor review of that product.
The mattress is very firm and my baby seems to find it comfortable in all sleeping positions. The sheet attaches very securely to the mattress with velcro. I've read reviews of the sheet shrinking in the dryer, but I have not had that problem. I did forgo purchasing a second matching sheet due to expense. I found a NoJo bedside sleeper sheet at Babies R Us for $8.99. It is 100% cotton and fits the mattress perfectly.
This co-sleeper is a great product if you have limited space. It has storage underneath which I use for extra bedding. It also has pockets on both ends (4 in total) that would be a good place for burp rags, pacifiers, etc.
